Air Conditioning Funk

Now that it has started to warm up a bit so the A/C kicks in to cool my 06 down after it has been sitting in the sun, I am noticing a stinky mouldy sort of funk smell for the first few minutes. This has never happened before. Is there a filter or something that needs to be cleaned or replaced?

Mine had that too, and changing the air filter doesn't work. What I read on here from other owners is to spray lysol down the vents, which was what I did. At first, it didn't seem to do much, but now, I think the smell has pretty much gone away.

Check the Strange Smell post someone just bumped. Your air cabin filter located above/behind the glove box is the filter you would be asking about.

Not a filter, it's mold/mildew that has accumilated in the vents/tubes/etc. SLEEPINXLIONHART has it right. The same thing happened on my 06 Explorer. With the vent fan running, spray Lysol in the fresh air vents (bottom of the windsheild/below wiper arms). It may take 2-3 times and a day or so...but this will do it.

Wink

you have MOLD in your AC system which is quite common with Acura's and Honda's. Here is what you need to get to "do it right"....:
google: Wurth Ac conditioner. Buy it and follow the instructions. problem solved the correct route. All that other stuff is a waste of money or a money maker for dealerships that take short cuts.....Keep in mind this is a commerical product and may require you purchase 6 cans minimum which was the case with me....
Hope this helps!

I have had this issue on both of my new VW's (01 Golf and a 07 GTi) and my 06 RL.

Twice a year I pull out the pollen filter from the glove box (a hell of a lot easier in the Acura versus the crude VW set-up) and spray "Clean Air" mildew treatment into the glovebox intake and the exterior intake (by the w/s wipers). The treatment lasts about 6 months and is very simple.

I buy the clean air on-line at Autogeek.net http://www.autogeek.net/clean-air-fogger.html (I don't use the "fogger" part of the kit).

Last weekend I picked up a can of mildew spray at a Napa store for $7 and at least for right now the stink is gone and the a/c smells factory fresh.

had a Jeep that the seams leaked and it taught me how to fight mold in a car. Simply put - spray Lysol. With the AC on high spray the intake area for about 10 seconds then leave the windows open about an hour. That should knock it down and kill the spores. Lysol was the only thing that not only was easy to use but would knock down the mildew for months at a time until I found the sources of moisture.

Just curious what kind of Lysol do you use? I tried it for 2 days now and the funny smell still there. It reduced quite a bit though. I guess I will have to just continue to spray it.

Did you try this stuff? I would not waste time and money on Lysol and while you are there change your ac filters where you would spray Wurth ac conditioner actually at the ac motor intake...do this the correct way and turn your cabin into new! Your lungs deserve it.....
