it seems like H&R is now offering sport springs for the RL. Anyone on this forum has anything other than the A-spec package? Muse and Mugen have exhaust systems, I wonder who makes the intake. Just getting ready before I buy my RL.

Pretty cool. Looks inexpensive and I am sure the intake will add some boost (+15hp), probably up to 305HP after the downgrade to 290.

there was no downgrade... they had to restate the HP due to the new SAE standards... its the same as 2005 but 05 has it as 300+

acutally...that's what I meant, just came out wrong...so we could actually get over 300+ with this add-on.

Also, would this aftermarket product be "warranty" safe?

you want to try the intake and let all of us know how it is?

I know this part of the board has a totally different demographic from the TL side, and may feel differently about modding, but I'll ask anyway:

Has anyone actually installed this intake and dynoed it? The extra power would be nice, especially with a Mugen exhaust....I saw a thread with a stock RL dynoed, but all the images are gone...

If I buy the car, an intake will be my first mod other than buying new tires.

Wow I missed this thread. I def want to mod my RL. Just have to find the right parts. This one looks promising.

While I would love to see a cold air intake add 15-or-so HP, in my experience this will be unlikely.

I did some serious mods to my previous car (a 96 Mustang Cobra) and dyno'ed the car to see the differences each mod made. I totalled about 36 HP extra, with most of the HP gains coming from the use of underdrive pulleys (~18HP) and high-flow catalytic converters (~12HP). The difference with the addition of a Rousch cold air intake was in the 3-5HP range.

Just trying to set realistic expectations

Does the "electric fan" supercharger do anything?

TIA...

Definitely .

Cmon, guys, there's GOT to be someone who has at least installed an intake on their RL. Sound? Seat of pants effect? Anything?

Anyone? Bueller? Hello? Am I to be the first?

Now that sounds like a challenge!

OK, that in itself is a reason to buy the RL. We definitely need to bring some spirit to this part of the board.

the following is a reply from the ONLY intake vendor on the net. I was asking to to see if they have any photos of the RL with their intake (B&B)

"Hello,

Yes, we do have it for 05-06 Acura RL.

We don't have any extra pics with the intake, the pic is pretty much the same as in our web but with different tubing. It's very nice.

It's in stock for immediate shipping.

As soon as we receive your order, I will mail it asap and email your shipment reference.

Please let me know. Thank you

Jim"

More important than pictures would be a before and after dyno documenting their "up to 10% improvement" claim. That's what I want to know....

Is researching an intake THAT much of a bother for B&B?

I seem to recall that it took some research and a volunteer's car for AEM and Injen to make their excellent intakes for the TL. Mayhap one of our SoCal members would like to volunteer for AEM?

Intake, exhaust, pulley and I would be happy. I'm gonna look into getting a pulley developed for us.

I have an intake on my RL. I made and adaptor for a K&N filter out of exhaust tubing. Basically a very short length of pipe that slides inside our stock intake hose and a slightly smaller still piece of pipe welded to it that the filter slides over. i used this setup before on my CL before I bought a true intake for it. The sound is great! Not as loud as it would be with a complete intake, but you can deffinately hear the Vtec kick in now which is very welcome considering how quite the RL is. It basically sounds like any other intake, just more muffled.

or at least some description/feel....not accurate, but interesting.

Does the car "know" and remap things to take it into account?

Sorry for not checking back and answering your questions quickly. I will try and take a pic of it today. As for the dyno, there is not even a 4-wheel dyno in close to me nor am I interested in having it dynoed. The one thing I can tell you is it wakes up the motor a bit. It now has a deeper and tiny bit louder not during exceleration and you can deffintely hear the VTEC kick in. But because the engine bay is so well sealed, it muffles the "growl" quite a bit. I know that it would sound a lot better when i replace the factory rubber tube, I just have not had the time lately to fabricate one.

That's OK, ski. Thanks for the information you could provide.

I didn't even think about a four-wheel dyno for an AWD car, it makes sense.

Dynoing the RL could be tricky with it's electronic power transfer from front to back I think. Nevertheless I will be atempting it in the future once I get some mods.

As promised, pictures of my temporary intake. Does this make me the first with an intake on my RL? I am wondering with the new TL S if Comptech and other manufatures will finally make some performance parts for this engine?

Have you thought about adding a CAI? With that setup, you are pulling hot air from the engine compartment....i'm no expert, but for every 10 degree temp increase, you lose 1 hp.

Looks nice, but I would try and make it a cai. The factory intake is a cai also.

To satisfy the CAI crown, I left the factory lower airbox in place which still has the air piping to it and this blows whatever cooler air there was at the bottom of the filter. I did not do this for that reason, I did it to support the filter. I personally think all the hype about a CAI is a joke. I mean, great, your sucking in air from outside the engine compartment. But now, that air is then heated up to the same temp as all the metal piping that was used to get your filter closer to the dirtier air. Air from below the bumper might be good for cooling brakes, but I can't think of an OEM that has a "CAI" design. If I wanted a performance car I would have bought the new Z06 but that is not why I purchased this RL. I am not worried about the minimal horse power loss by engine heat. I just wanted to hear the engine a little more, thats all.

thanks for the pictures! I think that looks great, a good start for the rest of us. Once I get my car back (not for another week) I might bring my car to a local peoformance shop and see what they can do to custom make a CAI for my RL.

I changed it up a bit guys. I purchased a larger K&N so it fills up the space a little more. I will post pics later, I think it looks a lot better with the larger filter. Also, it would be very simple to fabricate a short length of pipe to replace the OEM tubing. You will only need one bung protruding from it to attach the single breather tube to it.

Until you post the pics, you get the obligatory...

And thanks for sharing your intake, it's very helpful to all of us considering such a mod.

Here are pics of the larger and in my opinion better looking filter. I am going to fabricate a short lenght of metal pipe to replace the OEM rubber one.
