Acura has a problem...

the Hyundai 2015 genesis awd loaded about $40,000 compared to Rlx awd advance $68,000 plus tax Lin.. maybe more..??
yes, i LOVE my Rl I have been waiting for the Awd Rlx. but I do not make 200,000 a year. I did buy my Rl New around $50,000. but it took 5 yrs to pay it back to the bank. I have no regrets. however, come on Acura who are they fooling pricing the awd Rlx out of most people in middle class pockets. So I will go drive the new 2015 awd Genesis. I think allot of us might join me. but I stop short of saying I will buy one!!!!!? come on ACURA WAKE UP!

The Genesis is not in the same class as the RLX. Buy a TLX if that's what you want. Hyundai has made leaps and bounds with their cars over the past 3 years, but the Genesis doesn't have the fit, finish, or features that Acura offers in the same class.

Hyundai is the new rung at the bottom of the luxury totem pole. Some companies (Koreans come to mind) make their entire business off of following behind, building cheaper products, and covering their terrible profit margins with quantity. Why do you want Acura to fight for the lowest spot? Besides that obvious point, they don't owe you anything. Vote with your wallet. If Hyundai's product is truly superior, Acura will notice.

Just wait three years and get it off lease, it will be half price. That's how I got my 05.

Horrible comparison and complaint. Totally not in the same calss. I totally agree with oo7. You will buy a '15 Genesis now and in '18 you'll buy a '15 RLX after you come to your senses. Just be thankful the RL didnt cost you what it did brand new in Canada.

I could have and thought about it. The RLX was a very nice ride.

Instead I got a new loaded Accord and chose to invest the rest.

Christopher, I am sorry, but Acura did not over-price the car. This is not 2005 any more. Do you really think a car company can put more features into an already $54,000 car and charge the same price 10 years later? Have you seen the price of a BMW today? You can easily spend $50k on a 4 cylinder 3 series. Look at the competition besides one other car from one other make.

I hate to break it to you, but $54,000 isn't worth as much as it was ten years ago, and I can bet you a new RLX SH-AWD that someone on this site will buy one.

You gotta pay to play. No flagship car is cheap and compairing a rl to a genesis is a horrible comparison. In the end none of our opinions matter cause its your wallet not ours

Your source for this price? I am unaware official pricing has been released.

Layering on the pains of tax, etc. makes it appear you are trying to convince yourself the Genesis is the wiser choice,,,,for you anyway.

Refinement and reliability do not appear in comparison checkboxes, but many do acknowlege them, desire them and will pay for them.

I replaced my 04 TL with a 2012 Genesis and can accurately compare the Genesis with the RLX since we also have a 2009 RL Advance. I think that the two are very close, but the Genesis has much better ride and more features (proximity alarms front and back, and automatic wipers to mention just two). And I love the adaptive cruise control that came standard on my Genesis and was a $4000 option on our RL. Our Advance RL does has a nicer interior than my Genesis, but the Genesis has more comfortable seats. And I think the front of the RL is just plain ugly.
Hyundai is where Acura was in the 1990's, providing more car for less money to overcome the stigma of being identified as a inferior product to the luxury cars of the period.
I plan on replacing my Genesis with another Genesis in a year or two. My wife will never sell her RL as she loves the car.

The 2015 Genesis is wayyy better than the past generation in terms of fit and finish. They've also added more features. If you really want to see how Hyundai is putting out a great product, check out the Equus. That is a piece of art on wheels which Acura has no vehicle to compare to. This coming from an Acura/Honda enthusiast. However, they've dropped the ball so much recently, I will be jumping ship. I'm hoping they come out with a performance oriented coupe to bring me back.

Do you mean it actually has more features, it seems like it has more features, or it has more features that you care about? Also, do you mean for the 10 year old RL, or the RLX which this thread is about?

The topic of this thread is completely subjective. However, there are plenty of objective measures for us to base our opinions on, and a features comparison is one of them.

I am willing to bet that if you laid out all of the features, the RLX (and even the RL) would be longer. Whether or not you car about the features isn't the point. The flagship's role is to showcase all of the features a make has and work out the bugs for them to be passed onto the lower model ranks. It's the cost of this R&D that drives the RLX's price. Acura doesn't care of you buy the RLX. They want the TLX to be a home run.

This pretty much summarizes everything.

Since we are here, what about the Equus and K900? I know L already mentioned the Equus, but those two along with the RLX seem to be the best you can do for full size luxury under $70k. Has anyone here (and I ask that out of acknowledgement of people who appreciate luxury cruisers) looked into the Equus or K900 along side the RLX?

Would the OP shit a brick if he knew he could spend $67k at a Kia dealership?

I have driven the Equus. It is an amazing value if you are not looking for brand cache. But similarly, it has all the luxury features and many do very, very well but it is more a luxury limo. Even though the hp numbers are nice it is not a sporting ride, nor pretends to be. The suspension is just not as sophisticated or tuned for the driver who wants luxury most of the time and sport capability part time. Similarly the engine is very nice, but made it clear to me how obsessively refined Honda engines are. Honda would tune that engine for more refinement, more efficiency and likely more hp while offering bulletproof long term reliability.

I would not consider the RLX SHAWD and the Equus as direct competitors aside form price point. I would say the Equus might appeal to a Lexus LS driver who can dismiss the Lexus cache / experience because of the value differential. The Equus, while impressive with luxury content, is not the level of engineering sophistication a RLX SHAWD delivers. The Equus targets the pinnacle of V8 RWD high content luxury flagship whereas the RLX SHAWD is an alternative while redefining luxury / hybrid / sport / AWD. IMHO it is more unique than stats or price point alone can categorize.

The K900 appears to have a younger style but the underpinnings are the same. Wonderful products from the Hyundai / Kia camps but they have a way to go to prove long term reliability. The Koreans are catching the Japanese just as the Japanese pursued the Europeans 30 years ago. And they are closing fast, primarily due to the Korean costs are lower and the Asian ability to copy attributes of success.

I have read a review claiming that the K900 designers put steering response and driver feel at the bottom of the priority list and likely on purpose. Similar to your view of the Equus (practically same car) they view luxury as floating on a cloud a la Lexus or the old Cadillac.

I don't doubt the Korean drivetrain can last past 200k. The Genesis was tested past 800k, but that tells us nothing about the rest of the car (interior). Time will tell, and in a way, I'm glad the Koreans are catching up just to keep Honda honest and maybe light a fire under their ass.
