Acura Factory replacement battery

Well my battery died on Friday. I purchased it from my local Acura dealership exactly 2 years and 9 months ago and 18,000 miles ago for $100.00 installed. Yesterday I went back to the same dealership unaware of the 3 year, 36000 mile warranty and was surprised when I was not even given any paperwork after the new battery was installed. I have a schedule to replace it every 3 years which would have been in march 2015. My service writer said that as many times as the battery dies before the 3 years they will replace it for free.

It's a double edged sword in that you get free batteries but have to deal with potential strandings and time lost at the dealer.
I've actually have had decent luck with OEM batteries and have had them last much longer than three years.

Luckily I was not stranded. The battery had a hard time cranking but had just enough juice to start it while I was home in my garage. And it only took an hour and a half to install because I had them check the entire charging system to make sure that my alternator was OK.

Were there any odd procedures to the replacement? Is it just Remove and Replace? Did you lose all your programming and memory functions? Did you lose anything critical when the juice was disconnected?

Thinking of doing this myself, and worry about all the computer functions going dead when the battery is disconnected. If it's just R&R and then get radio codes back up, I have no problem with that.

It should be remove, replace and key in security codes for radio and navigation.

IIRC, mine didn't even ask for the codes because the battery wasn't out long enough. However, YMMV. There are a number of reset procedures documented in the Dying Battery thread. It's nothing special. Just remove and replace.

I got my battery replaced for the 3rd time in my 2012 TL, and I only have 46K right now. Even though it's nice to have free replacements if the batteries go bad I rather just buy a good battery & not worry about it anymore. For my old car I bought a glass mat battery & it was perfect. The car never ever struggled to start & I always kept it outside. Even with the harsh Chicago blizzards & winters it went through, every morning it started without any sign of struggle. I plan on buying one as soon as this battery begins to give. Suggest you do to

Did either of you use a battery tender to supply continuous power to the car during the battery's removal? I found a You Tube clip suggesting that approach. Your thoughts?

I've never done it that way. I make sure I have the codes (radio / navigation) and change out the battery in about 20 mins.
Can't say there is anything good or bad about using a battery tender, just never done it that way.
