AC Howl?

Temps reached 101 degrees today and I was out for a leisurely drive when I started hearing a faint noise from the engine compartment. The noise came and went for the next hour or so. The AC was on full blast and I am wondering if that could be a bearing issue? After letting the car sit at home for a while and then starting it up again, the noise was still present with the car sitting at idle. Not very loud, but you could still hear it.

I have 5k miles left on my warranty and would like to know what you guys think the issue may be and or if I should have it checked out at the dealer. TIA

101 here yesterday, 100 today. No abnormal noises from the A/C and I hear everything out of the ordinary. I've put off having things checked out and ended up being sorry. If the warranty is coming to an end, have it checked out.

I know this may be hard to handle, but did you try turning the A/C off and listening? Does it correlate with the fan speed? Is your stereo off?

Maybe speakers are producing sound or two due to audio noise canceling? I know some frequencies are emitted via speakers if there is noise...

Today, (not so hot), went for a short drive and could not hear the noise as pronounced as yesterday. Now that I've heard it once, I'll be listening for it all the time. I agree on taking it to the dealer, just want to make sure they can hear the noise also.

Of course, and it was hard to handle. At 101 degree's I wasn't about to listen for fan speeds, I just turned off the ac for about 5 seconds and the sound went away and returned when the AC came back on.

That actually crossed my mind when I first started hearing the noise. I simply put my finger over the ANC microphone and could hear the low hum but the noise from the AC never changed.

Knowing if it correlates to fan speed could help you narrow things down. If it did, it could be the motor or a leaf that got past the cabin filter and is stuck. The reason I asked if the stereo is off is I have heard noises before that sounded like the A/C but were actually my AUX cable not being plugged into anything and picking up noise.
