I checked earlier today and it wasn't up. The tech package costs an additional $3,800. Otherwise it looks identical to the 05'. No cooed seats or anything else I can see.

Absolutely nothing I would want in the tech package even if it was 1/2 the price. Question: If you have the PAX run flat tires, do they remove the spare tire?? Having a little compartment under the trunk floor might be a neat place to store stuff like a first aid kit, a flashlight, emergency cold weather gear etc. I currently have the above stuff crammed around the spare tire.

I wouldn't pay anything for those features. I don't like any.

I doubt they remove the spare, but they may. I would like to know how the run flats work. Is it just the tire itself or is there something else to it?

2006 RL finally available

Acura's website announced tonight that the 2006 is finally available. I'm going to take the plunge and go for the optional Technology Package that includes the Collision Mitigation Braking System, Adaptive Cruise Control, and Run-Flat Tires -- for "only" $3800 above the base price. I hope this Package is worth the money, and that it proves reliable. I'm placing my order this week -- I'll give a review of the Tech Package as soon as it arrives.

There is another thread that has already been started regarding the new RL. I am merging your thread with that one.

It'd be nice to have laser cruise but if I were in the market for a 06 RL I wouldnt want to pay close to 4 grand to get it along with two things I really dont need or want.

Personally I do not care about the Tech Package (3.5K more, defiantly not worth the $$$).
I do care about rear-view came. Just wondering if it could be installed on 05 RL.

I think that with the tire pressure monitor we already have we can safely install run-flat tires on our '05s. I don't think there's anything special about the tires, just tires with very rigid sidewalls that allow you to drive a bit further when there's no air in them. They've had these for a while. Anyone know if PAX is more than just the tires?

Thanks. Looks like installing PAX means new wheels. $$. Regular run-flats would be a good compromise and far less expensive.

I don't want to be overly critical of the PAX system, but I don't think it is worth the extra money. First, they are only good for an extra 125 miles. If you couple the TPMS with Roadside assistance, why do you need to drive 125 miles????

I guess to drive to a local dealer/tire store to get a replacement tire without having to wait an hour for roadside.

Exactly. Flat tire -> continue to destination and take care of fixing it while at work/home wherever.

O.K. Can the PAX system help after running over spike strips while trying to escape from a bank robbery?

Just got my 06 with tech package

Well I really didnt want the run flats, not the conventional type they have a donut on the rim in the center to make it work, but decided to deal with it cause I can switch them out with conventional if I get new rims-the TPMS will work because its imbedded in the valve stems, and you can get those from acura.
The tech package is really cool, works and can freak you out if you dont know that its active.
I got it in black and parchment, the dealer will put on the backup camera for $500 with the labor, and they discounted the car $3800, I was able to get it with the destintation charges for flat $50K.
its only been one day but its a hell of a lot better than my TLS, which went through 2 trannys and a host of other issues. Got rid of it with 2 months of warranty left and 46K miles. Dealer gave me 15K for it.

I also got an 06 at a discounted price

I also just bought an 06 RL without the tech package for $48,300 (white pearl with parchment leather). This price included dealer installed rear deck spoiler, wood shift knob, and rear backup camera.

After 5 days driving it, my impression is that the rear camera does not work nearly as well as in my 04 MDX. If frequently washes completely out in daylight (I cannot see a thing). I think this has to do with the sloping rear end of the car.

The 06 RL with the Tech Package is designed to work only with the PAX system in place. It clearly states this in the ownership materials from Acura. I believe the speedo and TPMS will not work correctly, for one, and I bet the suspension was tuned for the PAX system as well.
