2006 Acura RL Resonator Delete

Hello all! First post for me here, but I've been searching around for a while for some sort of a video of just a simple delete of all four resonators on a KB1 RL. I couldn't find what I was looking for, so I decided to just go ahead and bite the bullet and go for it! Sounds pretty decent to me. Quiet while cursing, yet nice and loud when being pushed. I am sure a lot of people say this, and I'm sure to receive some crap, but it does sound sort of G35-ish.

Here is a video of right after I had it completed. An hour or so ago! I had new tips welded in as well.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vdqM...ature=youtu.be

I did the same thing on my other cars; Celica and Camry, and liked it, so I figured why not try it on my RL!

Hope you guys enjoy!

Thanks guys! At freeway speeds it is silent with no drone at all, thank God! That is always my main concern...

I am in the Boston area! BayState Muffler in Peabody on RT. 1 did the work. Been going to those guys for a while, they do really good work.

Nice. Sounds good also. How much mpg do you get with that delete.

Thank you! I will be keeping track of mpg's. So far nothing has changed, but I've only driven about 30 miles. I always get around 17 mpg on my usual driving route/conditions.

All in all I can't stress how pleased I am with the results of this modification. I was very afraid of ruining the luxury aspect of the RL, but it really is nice and quiet so long as I keep my foot off the gas!

Why would the MPG change?

Clearly because I can't keep my foot off the gas!

I was asked the same question when I deleted the resonator on my Camry. I wasn't expecting a change and in the end, there was no change at all. Maybe some think it will allow the exhaust to be more free flowing, in turn being more efficient? Either way I purely did it for sound, not performance or mpg's, but I'll still keep track of it just for the hell of it!

Thank you! I am glad as well, I cannot believe that it surpassed my expectations in almost every way possible. Hopefully over the next couple of days I'll have some videos inside and outside while driving. I should finally have some time to take some!

Just as a side update, MPG's did not change at all, 17-19mpg over the past four fill ups.

I think you'll realize the drone is there after a while. I did the same thing and I didn't realize the drone only because I was having too much accelerating lol. After some time, all I heard was drone. Resonator keeps the drone down so unless u did something else, I don't understand why u have no drone and I do

I am not sure to be honest with you? Drone is almost non existent for me. The only time there is a small amount of drone is when I am going up a steep hill, but it still isn't anything compared to my buddies STi with a turbo back exhaust. Now that is what I call drone 24/7… Haha!

I just deleted all four resonators and had them replaced with straight pipe, I assume that is what you did as well? I wonder why there is a difference?

I'm not always accelerating, then again I really can't when I'm driving to and from work and there are many cars around me. When I am cruising on the highway there is no drone either, no matter if it is 50mph or 85mph.

I just hope I am not going deaf... That's what is worrying me now!

I'm going to be taking a few videos very soon, I hope, that will possibly show everyone what it sounds like from in and outside the car!

So this is interesting. Leaving 2 of the resonators in places will create drone based on what you guys have said so far. If you both could post some rolling shots from inside n outside, it would really set things in perspective.
OP, do u think the muffler tips u have put on have any sort of effect on the sound wave ?

Thanks Sniffles!

MTLTL, I am not sure if the tips would change the sound at all? I am not experienced in that field, unfortunately. They're 4" angle cut Magnaflow double walled tips. (Or something like that haha). I will be posting videos soon!

Alright guys! Here is a quick video! I hope to post some better ones soon, especially one outside the car while accelerating.

*Fyi, something must have went wrong while uploading and the audio is pretty choppy.* I'll try to fix that asap!

As promised, here are the raw video files without the choppy audio. Not sure why no matter what I do in Final Cut Pro the audio acts all strange...

Like I stated before, this is the best I can do for now as for sound videos. Working everyday is the real problem for me trying to record videos inside and/or outside the car.

Hope these help guys!

Hey Guys, this is my first post on AZ. I have a 2005 RL I got about a year ago and so far I have a Cosmo Racing CAI and two of the four resonators deleted and also replaced the stock mufflers with Magnaflow 14829 after hearing a YouTube video of it with those mufflers (I also have done some electronics mods like a 2 way remote start/alarm and subwoofers that I will post on a different thread I guess?). I must say I'm pretty happy with the results. It sounds good when accelerating but pretty quiet when cruising. I have noticed that it is loud at around 2k rpm. As soon as you're over 2k rpm it gets quiet almost instantly. I have a few videos of both the resonator delete with stock and magna flow mufflers. Let me know if you guys want to hear it, I'll upload them to YouTube and post a link. The attached pictures are of the Magnaflows and straight 2.5" pipe all the way to the first two resonators.

Looks good! I would love to hear how sounds!

I almost did the same as you with different mufflers, but was afraid it wouldn't be as quiet as I was hoping for, hence why I left the stock mufflers on my car.

I was planning on having some much better sound videos of my setup on here by now, but the snow has ruined/is ruining all such attempts…

Start a thread in the photography sub-forum dedicated to your car and the progress of your builds. I would even include everything you put in this post.

Welcome to the forum.

Hey Guys,

Here's the video I promised of the exhaust on my RL.

Also, we just got a bunch of snow today and I went out to a parking lot in my area and drifted around a bit. Here's that clip too.

I have a clip of it before I got the mufflers installed, running 2/4 resonators on stock mufflers that I will upload and post later.
