2005 Rl with high mileage

Im in the market for an Rl and came across this ad on craigslist. The owner has done all the required maintenance for the vehicle. Heres the ad http://portland.craigslist.org/clc/cto/2816287265.html

What im trying to ask is it a good price if I purchase this vehicle for $9900 or is that too high?

Thanks

Thats a good deal considering it has the wood wheel and knob.

Great, another "Don't buy a first year car" thread.

Check the car for these issues OP: https://acurazine.com/forums/2g-rl-2005-2012-76/good-deal-not-845572/

The price is great IMO if it has new tires and service records.

Thanks for the input ichi. What kind of value does the wood wheel and nob add to the car? I kbb the car and it came out to around 10k flat. I thought the rl already came loaded with all options, which means there are no addition options could be added on. Correct me if im wrong.

The 05's came loaded other years had "tech" packages.

Just make sure it is not a PAX car. Click here for the "what is PAX" answer: https://acurazine.com/forums/2g-rl-tires-wheels-suspension-92/michelin-pax-tires-vs-regular-tires-817203/

The wood accessories are nice to haves, there are a few threads talking about them:

The wood steering wheel and shifter add a very nice touch to the car. The wheel is $450 and approx. $150 to install and the wood shifter on Ebay is about $70. I just sold a 2007 RL with 164,000 miles. It had no problems and looked brand new. The only thing the 07 has that the 05 does not is the backup camera. If the maintenance has been done that seems like a very good price. You will be driving a $50,000 car with an incredible sound system, nav, bluetooth, XM radio and keyless start just to name a few items. After 5 years and 164,000 miles, I looked hard at other makes and models and could not find anything as satisfying as the RL. Bought a 2010.

No PAX as it does not have CMBS (no shield or steering wheel buttons). That seems like a steal for his asking price, at least assuming it drives well. That car is still not to mid life if it has been maintained as they say. I would jump on it if it drives well even for his asking price. One minor annoyance you will quickly see is that the center console has started to bubble. The driver's arm rest is likely the same way. However, many people have had these reupholstered for $50-70 each with real leather.

Read up on the 2005 issues, but even if this car had some it still looks to be in great condition and worth that price. Well, that is assuming the last pic was taken while it was snowing.

Oh yeah, check all the fenders for matching VIN numbers and Acura decals on all the windows. One stray will point you to an accident. If you really want an RL, I think you will be hard pressed to match this price for a car that has not been in an accident. It is also worth mentioning, although it should be obvious, that a car with this kind of miles will need some replacement parts such as new shocks. Things like this don't last forever, and this car is HEAVY. However, I look at it as a chance to modify the car to your liking.

I have 2005 with 145K miles
I have some definite appearance issues, rock nicks on hood/bumper, headlight lens getting bad, and the common arm rest problem.
However, mechanically solid and so far so good on all electronics.

The pics of that car look amazing for that many miles.

In 05 the PAX was not an option. As previously mentioned, the only options were dealer installed and included Wood wheel and shift knob and trunk mat. So all 05's were the same and the "wood" options would add about 30 cents to its value. (maybe more if you like them).

I'd give him 5 extra bucks...

But really if you had a car will all records and no wood next to a car with wood and one missing record, I would pay more for the one without the wood.

It doesn't matter how nice your steering wheel looks if it's stuck on the side of the road.

Thank you for all the advice and information that you all provided. Since Im busy with school and work, probably wont be able to check it out for another week. The owner indeed has all the paperwork and such for the car. This is a big plus

FredS, do you mind telling me how much you sold your RL for?

It had 164,000 miles on it and it is an 07 silver with taupe interior. The car looked incredible, thanks Zaino. Sold it for $14,200.

Bought the Acura RL! haha I am truly happy with my purchase. Everything runs smoothly and flawlessly for the mileage it has. Even though it has 153k, it feels like it has half that. It was superbly maintained by the previous owner. Has all maintence work up to 144k.

There is one annoying problem with the car, the sensor unlock system doesnt seem to work properly when its raining outside. Is there a simple fix to this?

Where's Heavy? There are some known issues with water and these handles.

Congrats on the pickup too.

The more common problem is that the door sensor will not lock rather than unlock.
Has this ever happened when it is not raining?

Locking on both driver and passenger side works fine, its just unlocking that im having a little difficulty with. I have to play around with it for a little bit before it unlocks.

Everything works fine when it dry.

I believe there are screws behind a door behind the handle, but I am not sure that will fix your issue. I know they are used to hold the panel to the door frame.

Careful with the handle - it breaks off! Pull towards the lower part as opposed to the top.

Mine broke completely off, but I crazy glued it back on. Seems stronger than before now.

Do NOT wash the car with the remote in your pocket.

problems with remote in the rain

I, too, have had problems unlocking the front doors in the rain with the remote sensor in my pocket while touching the door handle. My dealer said that is common and that there is really not a fix ....

It's due to the capacitive nature of the handle. The design is pretty innovative, but it is not without flaw.

Man I love this car. The more I read about what people paid for their 05 I think I'm starting to love the dealer I got it from too. Of course love is a funny thing ... one can fall in and out quickly! LOL!
