2005 RL = not shopping for TLs anymore

I drove the 2005 black/parch w/57,000 miles today .. holy crap, what a beautiful ride! The only downside I see is the insurance and electronics. From my calculations, it's $50 more per month to insure a 2005 RL as opposed to a 2005 TL.
Electronics=More stuff, more problems=more$$ to fix.

I found one today listed at 19,900. The dealer said he would Certify it and sell it to me for $21,000. I want to tell him to price it up certified for me and have it equal $19,000 when totalled up (tax etc.).

It think he may go for it. He even told me the lady who traded it in didn't know what she was doing and basically gave it to them. So I know they got it for a steal.

What's everyone here paying for a 2005?

Blazing, if you don't mind, where did you purchase your RL?

To b0n3, I think that price is slightly steep for 57K miles, I've been researching constantly the prices on 05 RLs, and I've seen most if not all RLs with 56K+ Miles go for as low as $17.5. I'm sure most members will agree the resale value on RLs now is horrible so its a perfect time to capitalize on that now. If I was you I'll try to to talk them around $18K range, just my $.02

As for myself, unless I see a amazing deal, I'm more than likely going to wait until March to pull the trigger on an RL, due to horrific weather NYC is expected to have this winter.

well i see you are in NY, I live in brooklyn and I purchased it at Kings Plaza Jeep and Chrysler. I was the internet/inventory manager and knew the cost of all the cars. They owned it for $21000 and I bought it plus tax. Great car. I had a 2004 TL before that and i traded it in.

Can you belive a 19 year old is actually enjoying the RL? This car is awesome man.

Just bought my 05 three weeks ago in Cleveland for $20,900 with 36k on it. I thought it to be a fair deal. Pittsburgh dealers were wanting 24k-28k for similar vehicles that I drove. I found the one I purchased on eBay and went and and looked at it before purchasing. I've found a few more cars in that general area for around 19k with a few more miles. Good luck!

I've been thinking of getting an '05 RL and have been checking eBay for comparative shopping. It seems that a lot of eBay RL's are, for some reason, located in Ohio. Why is this?

Should I be concerned about buying an RL in the rust belt?

maybe it's because I'm in MA. I have Progressive as well and for a comparison quote, I added a 2005 TL. Then I removed the TL and replaced it with the RL. The RL came out to about $50 more a month.

You may wish to check other insurance companies, I just traded a 05 TL for a new 08 RL and my insurance actually went down slightly over the year. I am with American Family. I was told the RL is a safer car and has less history of accidents, etc. Good luck.

It likely has to do with the profile that has been created for that car. Very few kids own it and drive like fools.

I went from a 2005 TL to a 2006 RL and my insurace dropped about $275 /year which surprised me as the RL was more expensive to repair, replace.

However, there is more to the math than the car models alone. Insurance companies factor in location, miles driven, drive age/sex/record, miles on vehicle being insured, and in some cases the CARFAX report and even the driver's credit rating and occupation.

But generally speaking, the 2nd Gen RL has slightly higher safety ratings than the 3rd Gen TL. A TL-S being a sport model, may take a ding on the ratings.

YMMV

I just purchased a 2005 RL with 28,000 and about 13 months left on the factory warranty for $22,000 even. Seemed like an Ok deal (the car was in very good condition). Unfortunately, it only had 1 key fob, so that will add to the cost.

Congrats! The best price is the price where YOU feel you got what you wanted for a price you felt was fair.

It seems a lot of people are aquiring used RLs where only one keyfob is included. Considering the cost, I am suspicious that the missing fobs are being intentionally kept for resale on Ebay. I don't know who the culprits are,,,,previous owners, dealer prep workers or even salesreps?

Seems to be a pattern.

There should be an insurance discount verses the TL.

The RL is slightly safer and generally has better drivers behind the wheel.

I'm still working on acquiring this vehicle as certified. Is offering them $19,000 otd something an Acura dealership would even consider? The car has 57k miles on it and is probably going to sit on the lot for a while next to all those shiny TLs.

Given slow sales, I'm sure they would. It never hurts to ask, they worst they can do is say "no".

welp .. i found another ,, Certified with 49,000 miles. Brilliant Silver and Ebony interior. The body is mint. It has a factory rear lip spoiler and also matching splash guards. With those options, the car looks slightly "meaner", but classy at the same time. I love it, and the dealer wants $20,000. I'll probably go in with an $18k offer and let him work me to $19k otd (I don't know why, but 19 is the number I want to pay).

Question, the rear lip spoiler looks really good, but I am picky and noticed that it may need to be "lowered" down the trunk because the sides flair up slightly. I thought it was supposed to be flush all along the top of the hood, but I may be wrong. By slightly, I'm talking millimeters. Is this an easy task to remount, or is it a hassle? And could it be covered under the B2B warranty because it's OEM?

also, has anyone ever seen the splash guards on the RL? Not sure if it's a factory option or aftermarket thing, but they look pretty cool.

Mine is snug all along the trunk lid. If they put it on properly, there are a couple of screws through the trunk lid (under the cover) that hold it tight. Perhaps they can be tightened. Some have just installed it (with much success) using just some good 3M double sided tape. If it's on this way, it probably has to be removed and reinstalled to get it tight. Tell the dealer that you want it "fixed."

Thanks .. it could need to be tightened, but I did notice a little "drip" coming out the bottom (almost like a bad glue job, or maybe silicon). I'll have them check it out. I'm being "real" picky about this, because seriously, how can you f that up!

Where are you in MA? Have you tried Prime Acura in Walpole?(The old Clair Acura)

I work about a mile from there, and they seem to have Quite a few Pre 09 RL's.

That's where I go .. I won't deal with BOCH or any of those big lot dealers.
I bought a '97 3.0 CL back in 2000 from Clair Acura and they always took care of me. I really like how Clair/Prime does business, so I'll stick with them.
PM me if you have any connections over there.

My rear trunk lip spoiler looks likeyours and I also had the dealership install the color matched mud flaps when I got my 2008RL in the summer. They are factory issue items.
Enjoy your ride. I love mine except for a couple of rattles which I will have taken care of at my first oil change which is coming up, at 40% remaining now.

I got my 05 RL with 35K miles for 20K certified just the other week in Cleveland. I think 19K is too much for a car with 57K miles.

That's how I installed mine. It has tolerated 100+ degree summer weather and is currently tolerating wintry temps as low as the teens. It remains solidly attached. I don't need no steenking hardware.

I went to the dealer today .. the car was a 2005 RL with 49,800 miles. Sticker on the car was $20,999. I made an offer of $19,000 Certified and we went back and forth for 2 hours. They came up with $20,485 Certified. I walked.
I just feel like I can get a better price on a certified RL with 50,000 miles. Was I crazy to walk?

I would have walked too. Plenty of fish in the sea. I think that 2005 models may see a drop in price in Jan 2009. Adds a psychological year to the age.

You feel or you know? $20K is a good price. That would mean that in 1 year, our car has dropped $14K. We picked it up an 05 used in 07 with 20K on it for $34K. At the time it was the best price and condition for 500 miles. Had to goto LA to pick it up.

I should mention it was certified and in mint condition. All we've done is replace the tires (@50K) so we're rather pleased.

Oh and the mouse ate a wire, so we had to do that.

yeah, I'm thinkin about going back and taking the deal. The car is mint with additional rear lip spoiler and splash guards. Certified at 50k isn't too bad for $20,485. There doing all new tires as well. So I guess I should just bite the bullet and do it. I just had a price in my head .. and everything I've seen online Certified is 23k + (at least in Massachusetts. And I'm buying through an Acura dealer.

Thanks for the replies .. this shit is nerve racking

KBB says that SRP on that car is $22k. I'd say that $20.5k is a fair deal.

Done deal .. today i sealed the 2005 RL 49K miles at $20,450 CPO

The car looks just like Neuron's (minus the exhaust and wheels). I am very happy. CSM/Ebony interior. I have to wait a week or so for the title .. so I should be getting it around X-Mas time. pics to follow ...

Thanks all .. one more thing.

Since it's already Certified but at 49,800 miles, should I just bite the bullet and finance the 7yr/100k Acuracare warranty on top of the $20,500 price? I'm not sure what they are going for, but the Finance guy at the dealership said that he could "work something out". I haven't officially paid for it yet, so I do have a little power over the final outcome of the deal.

Looking at the maintenance records, I didn't see any mention of A/C repair, so that kinda worries me that it'll happen just out of warranty (I'm lucky like that)
