161 RLs sold in March

Wow, that's bad. That's down 69.4% from last year and the year to date is 58% off. I simply don't know what to say.

What an expensive retooling for the 2009, and for what?

It looks like 037's 2009 thread is going to be lonely for a little longer.

I heard(actually read somewhere) that the dealers are hardly getting any RLs, so I'm guessing they're selling every one they do get(?)

Between all the auto companies, there has to be a lot of unsold cars. Where do they eventually go?

I am sure you have seen this before...but if not, here is one answer.

http://blog.cleveland.com/business/2...cars_at_f.html

The other is the 4 month shut down of the Honda UK plant in Swindon, last I read, however, they have not laid anyone off, although not working for 4 months has effectively done so, I am sure. I hear they are using the time to furiously retooling and modernizing the plant for a new model they were going to produce anyway...only now, they will be as efficient as possible in the manufacturing process.

I see this similar to the actions Honda has taken to develop custom covered rail car transporter units which protect the cars from transit damage, and in the long run, cost the company less money and time in car prep at the dealer.

I was just about to provide that link. That's only 20 miles from me. Ironically, it was an old Ford plant where they're parking all those Hondas.

As for the RL, my dealership has still the same lone 2009 RL for @ least 4 months now. That speaks to not only how low supply is being sent out but also how bad they are selling.

Perhaps it is time to stick a fork in it. Acura is clearly not aggressively trying to move this car & I would rather it hibernate for 1 or 2 years than have monthly sales of 1 or 2 hundred {not unlike the Infiniti Q or Insight}. The ZDX could take over as the flagship until the RL is ready to make a comeback.

Yeah, I've had my 2005 RL for 4 years now, and I'm wondering why even bother trying to sell the RL at this point? Clearly, Acura has moved on and will be soon promoting their new model, the ZDX. Personally, I think the only reason why the RL even exists is because Honda Motor Corporation in Japan forced it upon Acura of North America.

Good!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I hope they sell 20 next month. Makes the car even that much more rare in the overcrowded California roads.
Similar to the new Audi commercials with a ton of RX's in there.

My dealer has an '09 RL on the floor with chrome, 5-star 20's on it, but the sales guys push the TL as having more power and the same AWD system. We are an elite, those of us that bought and drive these freaky, undesirable white elephants.

I also have a Jeep Comanche, noted for annual sales around 1500 trucks, nationwide, toward the end.

Heck, I've got a Delorean Hot Wheel. Does that count?
