So much for paying my 2006 RL off early.
Just a little background. I bought my RL (one owner) 1/28/17 for $17,000 It had 112,104 miles on the odometer. I currently have 115,500 on it. Love the vehicle; looks brand new inside and out. Except last Tuesday my check engine light went on, and I was curious to why it went on. I took it to my local Acura dealer and of course getting the usual comments on how rare they are, and what good condition it is in. Wednesday morning I receive a call and he tells me that he has a "few concerns" regarding my RL. He then proceeds to tell me that my Oil and water pump needed replaced because they are leaking, as well as my coolant hose is cracked. Then front and rear brake pads and rotors need to be replaced as well as front struts, and a new set of front tires. He said that's not his biggest worry, he said that that 3 cylinders are firing incorrectly and in addition new spark plugs are needed. Also on my own choice I decided to replace the side motor mounts, and have all the fluids flushed and replaced. All said and done with the dealer discount it a cost a whopping $11,563!!!...And they would throw in a free interior and exterior detail. I almost had second thoughts on keeping the car, couldn't let that happen. I went ahead with all of the repairs. And fingers crossed that i have no more repairs with this car. My 11 year old 17k has now turned into a 28k car. Just out of curiosity are all these repairs normal for this car? My 2007 Audi Q7 has never had anything replaced except brakes/tires/fluids replaced. I feel like I got a poor deal on this car(keeping in mind it was a family friend that sold this car to me who bought a new Mercedes S550).
11K! Bro, hate to tell you this but you got absolutely and totally reamed by an unscrupulous dealer. Did they give you the old parts? You should post up pics if your invoice so members can look at what you were charged and comment on what you could and should have paid. Also, I paid $16,600 for my 2-owner 2007 with CMBS/ACC and had been dePAX'd with 73,000 miles in 2014 in comparison so yeah, you probably overpaid. Let us know what the name of this dealer is so we can stay the hell away from them. Jesus----
Retail for '06 RL w/112,000 is now $10,100, so don't know why one would spent $17,000 for the car.
Must be a joke, not to mention how one would come up with $11,000 in repairs.
If the story is true, you probably have the most expensive '06 RL in the world, $28,563 + other costs.
Sounds like they sold you a timing belt change with all the works and either you are making it sound like they built you a new car (aka embellishing), or they totally took you for a ride to the cleaners and you said yes to it all.
Post your invoice! Something definitely is not adding up!

The oil pump/timing belt job can be done for under 1500$ at a private shop including spark plugs. Front and rear brakes is a DIY job for under 500$. A full set of tires goes for about 800$ depending on the set. Front and rear struts is a ~$800 DIY job using OEM parts. All the fluids flushed and replaced should cost less than 500$ at said private shop, and I'm thinking every drop of fluid in the car. I've inflated some of these prices and I'm still coming up at 4,100$...
Edit: Did you pay 17K for the car in January? Or was that a typo?
He shouldn't. 17k for a 2006 RL with 112k miles AND he supposedly paid 11k for repairs. The last time the dealer tried asking me for $8500 (Rear diff for my Touareg) I dumped the Touareg. To pay 11k without even getting other opinions is absurd.
Well if you like I have a 2006 white RL with 51k miles in amazing condition everything has been done at the dealership, I'm the 2nd owner couldn't asfor a better car so for ohhhhh 25k it could be yours lol...
Why in the world did you buy it for 17K to being with????? And why in the world did you let the dealer rape you? Did they at least include vaseline in the 11k when the raped you?
Well sir you get the trend of the thread here that you got bamboozled but you made 2 big mistakes. 1. you should have posted the car on here asking for advice on purchase and price before buying 2. similarly, posted list of repairs and pricing to see if the repairs and costs were in line with a "level of normal" for the car before proceeding.
As an FYI...I had a similar experience with an acura dealer when car went in for airbag swap. The douche bags quoted me approx 3000 for repairs on everything from motor mounts to oil leaks not knowing it was just at another dealer a week before for timing belt/water pump etc with nothing noted. The mistake I made was not asking them to show me on the car and prove to me the repairs were needed. I can assure you they were not!
I hope OP just kidding, because I have an 06 RL with similar mileage. However I end up pay fraction of the price, OP my RL gave me no problem and I do not think all of that service cost you $11k in repair.
This rule is so underrated
Keep your family and business completely separated
Money and blood don't mix like two, uh "hotdogs" and no uh... "bun".
Find yourself in serious, umm... "trouble"
even friends!!
i had friendships go sour because I sold an "AS IS" car.
This is why I would never sell a car to friend or family, I do not want our relationship to be damage because a stupid car and beside its much easier to negotiate the price with stranger.

Definitely. I've had a car offered to me for sale by a friend, it was a great car but I didn't want to take that risk that it would ruin our friendship. The ONLY people I've ever felt comfortable giving a car to was my parents. My 1G RL traded hands back and forth between me and my dad, and we were both OK with that. My Camry was my mom's car prior to it trading hands to me.
My dad got burned by a family member about 10 years ago with a car. It's also worth noting that they weren't blood relatives, they were my mom's blood relatives. The family had just moved to the country and they needed a car for cheap. My dad GAVE them a Tercel that we had sitting in our driveway at the time. He told them he was handing it to them and he didn't want what the car was worth. He didn't care to get anything for it since the car was only worth about 1000-2000$ at the time. He knew it needed a thermostat, and he made them aware of that when he gave it to them, he even supplied them with the part and told them to get it fixed. Within 3 weeks the car overheated and had a warped head.
At the time, they told him to his face (and I was there) that everything was ok, no hard feelings, yada yada yada. A few months later, it was relayed to my dad thru the grapevine that they had bad mouthed him for "giving them a bad car that he knew was bad". Needless to say, that was the last time he ever did anything like that and we both learned our lesson. Luckily, that relationship has become less strained over the years, but needless to say, things never return to the way they were. That's why I've only ever been OK with car swapping with my parents only.
LOL!!!! thats the same thing that happened to my "AS is" car.. i told buyer. "LOOK, do not drive if temp gauge goes into the red! it needs water pump replacement!" freakin 1000 dollar car. SUCH a great deal! (IMHO)
the fucking girl drove it into the red and of course it over heated. and then had "Gangsters" call my phone threatening me to take back the car.
I LOL'd and said she signed the bill of sale.

before my acura, I wouldnt know what to look for either. buy a used car and hope it lasted long enough
it's only after i got the acura that i started to learn about how cars work. and what to look for in a used car.
