I dont know if this was discussed already but would swapping my navigation receiver in an 08 RL base to one from an 06 RL tech void my warranty?

lol...oo7spy i like jokes .. on a serious note though Ihave the Base model and i want the nav that is why I am swapping the nav. I called my local dealer and they are doing the swap and installing the backup camera all at the same time. my question is can I use the latest 2012 nav map?

 

I also want to say pease bare with me on my questions as I am new to the vehicle as well as this forum.

 

If i'm not mistaken, you need more than the DVD drive if you want NAV don't you?

Toppatop, if you have disc version 4.31c or newer, you will only need the newest disk. Otherwise, you need the firmware upgrade disc. If the dealer is supplying everything, they will hook you up.

I am confused on your car though. You have an RL but are looking to buy a salvaged one?

 

Jus to to put the salvage rl to rest I did not purchase it. I found another one for similar price with only 1k more miles which i picked up today. The reason I purchased one is because the older rl (2005) I have belongs to my wife.

 

Anyone here have the firmware DVD ? I will return it after use and willing to pay a borrowers fee if desired.

great news !!! i got my 06 nav receiver today, but I have to wait until next week friday to get the dvd map. cant wait.....its too bad i cant test it though, to make sure it works.

 

Does anyone know if the 08 rl no nav has a buoy in antenna for nav? Dealer said nav would not work by swapping receivers.

 

I wish u guys could of saw the look on the faces of all the employees at my local stealership. They said my nav and backup camera wouldn't work for my 08 RL base but when i told them to install it anyways they said i was just wasting my money. After all is said and done ......everything works and they are just dumbfounded. They even gave me discounts on other parts i purchased. All in all a great win for me as well as every dedicated person on acurazine. THANKS TO ALL WHO TOOK THE FIRST STEP TO MAKING THIS POSSIBLE.

Wait, so if i want to do the backup camera in my '05, will a newer navigation dvd drive (not disc obviously) allow that? or is there more? I realize I can just do the navtool etc.

 

Im curious how much it costs to install the backup camera onto an 07/08 RL. if you have part numbers and a general dealership fee for that I would love to see it all! thanks for the infos topp

 

The stealership wanted $375 for the camera alone but I got it on eBay for $99 ) they have lots more) the wire harness was $140+. $10 shipping. The stealership charged me two hours of labor ($230). I bought an 06 nav unit on eBay for $415 and had them swap it out since they had to remove the old one to do the camera. If I did them separate they wanted another $100 for the nav replacement. Brinox to answere your question ... If u buy a 06 nav unit (tech) and swap it for your 05 you will have nav. Btw. I even get nav traffic in my 08 RL. How cool

 

Newby mistake. I was under the impression i had nav traffic because my nav say "no traffic information within 30 miles" until i was in traffic and it still said the same thing. I don't want to put wrong info out there so there is no nav traffic with nav mods.

 

You need a Nav Traffic subscription through XM to get the traffic updates. If you don't have it, you may want to give it a try to see if it works. If is doesn't, cancel it. At least you'll know.
