06 Dash Button Function?

I own an 06 w/tech pkg. I've tried to figure out what option a button block off is for. The panel that goes from the left side of the steering wheel to the right is where it is. The left side has 3 buttons instead of 2 on tech pkg cars because of the cmbs on/off. On the right side it also has 3 spots for buttons, the 3rd being blocked off just above the dash light buttons. I couldn't find anything in the manual about the blocked off spot. It appears to be blocked off in all the tech pkg RL cars.com photos I could bring up. Has anyone seen this used? Is this for a Canadian option? Fr...in cu....ty killed the cat.

This button is unused in all USDM RL's to my knowledge. I theorized somewhere else it was for other options not available in the USDM such as the LKAS

I drove a JDM LEGEND when I was last in Japan. I believe it was for the night vision screen to pop up. (not available in North America). They also have a smart card slot in the blank where the sideview mirror select is located.

On the other hand, it could just be another dash button to collect dust.

Yes it is definitely a dust catcher, especially when you go off road.
