05 RL Transmission gear display

Does anyone know if there are any posts that describe how to amend the electronics or electrical system so that the gear (1-5) is displayed without the tranny being in the M mode?

Or, has anyone even considered such an effort? I would like to know the gear number in which I am running without having the advantages and disadvantages of the M mode.

Thanks for any thoughts on this matter.

Interesting idea.

How long have you had your RL? You can ususally feel what gear ur in. You can always look at the speed and rpm and figure it out as well.

if your good with wiring you can look at the diagram and see if its something simple. I doubt it though. Its probably programmed int to ecm.

I have driven the car about three years, 75K, and in the mountains for the greater portion of the miles. The car is so quiet and moves so effortlessly that sometimes I just can not really tell in which gear I am running.

Most of my other cars were very good at communicating the exact gear while on challenging mountain roads -- exhaust note, engine strain, air intake or tranny sounds, etc. -- but not my RL. I know that I compare my speed with my RPM's and should know intuitively about my gear. But, I would really like to see at a very quick glance the gear of the RL.

I am afraid that you are correct about the ECM. I was just wishing for someone to have previously addressed the matter.

Thanks for the reply.

Old Hatch, thanks for the suggestion on the FSM. I think that I found the switch (park-pin) -- Ref. 21 of 22-38 in the FSM.

My '06 Mazda 3 always showed the gear, and I found that was quite helpful (then again it also slows how sluggish the '05-08 tranny logic is). I'm a bit shocked that one cannot at least enable it via the MID, but I suppose the target audience just doesn't care. Good luck with this!

I'd love to have the gear display always active! That's a mod I'm definately interested in.

I am continuing to work of this matter. I will eventually solve to situation and post the solution regardless of the complexity or simplicity. I want to be free of the constraints of the engineering; not simply pleased to be equal with those who may be happy with what Honda gives us. Remember, in every way, history clearly demonstrates that freedom and equality are everlasting enemies.
