05-07 Reliability
My better half is looking for a new car. Ive always liked the RL, and this may be my opportunity to own oen with out having to sell the cl-s6 .
The first model years 05 06 07 (the only ones in my price range) how reliable are they? I'm looking at cars with 60-70k miles.
I'm looking for some opinions please

I purchased a 2005 model back in 2007 CPO and got the extended warranty for 950. Best 950 I ever spent. Issues that it covered on this first model year car ranged from the expensive drive shaft squeal, to an AC replacement, to smaller stuff like a seat switch, steering wheel buttons peeling off, and some other little stuff. Engine and drivetrain has been absolutely rock solid for me. I am pretty sure I could have lived with the driveshaft cold squeal for $2700. Reliable car? Absolutely. Just turned 110m, and did the Tbelt WP service stuff. Would let my wife drive this anywhere. My advice to you would be to pursue the model, but dig deep into what the previous owners had repaired. The items that came up for my 2005 were pretty common, and if they were not fixed, they probably would be needed in the future. My .02 would be to find some anal owner who bought one CPO with the warranty and was not afraid to use it. Car is pretty easy to work on as well- don't feel that the dealer needs to repair anything over a good private shop.

Very reliable car. '05 MY is the weakest of the three listed. '07 is the strongest. The '05 issues are well documented here. I would go '06 or '07 if possible.

Never had a problem with my 05 125K strong and i just do my regular maintenance. squeaks and what not happen but little weatherstripping foam or dynamite takes care of that

rear deck rattle from years of driving and me with my excessive bass loosens things up. so removed rear deck layer of dynamat and 12 strips of 1" weather stripping about 9 inches long to line the decking and rear shade

Too bad I didn't find acurazine before my recent purchase of a 05 RL with 52k. I do so enjoy driving it but it seems like I gotta be ready for quite a few repair bills. After driving it off the lot, I noted that cruise control is not working and side mirror is loose, which should be covered under Acura dealer's short warranty. I always buy new Hondas but am ready for more stylin in my life. Heres to hopin that I'll be happy that I own this yrs model.

^This. I have never heard of the cruise control not working. Surely you had the "Cruise" light illuminated on your dash; right? Maybe a hard reset via battery disconnect is in order. You can remove both terminal wires and hold them together for a minute or so to discharge everything. Just be sure to have your 4 digit nav code and 5 digit radio codes handy first.
Many people have owned 2005 RLs and experienced zero issues. In fact, the majority have. What you see here is a sample size that is heavily biased towards issues because people generally don't join forums to talk about how reliable their car is, especially old people (the people who bought this car in 2005). The 2005 RL is heralded as the third most reliable used luxury mid-sized sedan behind two Lexus models.
The 2005 MY is fine, but in comparison to the rock solid 2007-2008 (and probably -2012; not a lot of MMCs here) the 2005 is the weakest year.

I have an 05 and the only thing that was an issue is the drive shaft whine which was fixed under warranty/goodwill. I'm sure that most 05's have past the point of getting this issue so be careful on the purchase, if you hear it then drop it if you don't hear it then it probably has been fixed or will never happen.
007spy - I bought this car new in 05 but I wasn't old then!

I'm glad I got a "rock solid" '07 I couldn't be happier with the RL's overall, this being my second one, and definitely not my last.

I have an '07. 77K miles. Buy a CPO is my only recommendation. In 2 months of ownership I had 2 motor mounts replaced, brake master cylinder (TSB) replaced. and with the weather getting colder, I just noticed the propeller shaft center bearing 'whine'. These are big $$$ repairs. All covered under CPO... Thank you 7yr/100K....
My only concern is will I being doing these motor mounts and prop shaft in another 75K miles..
The last thing I want to be doing is spending my cash flow on repairs rather than awesome aftermarket wheels and go faster goodies

OK, I picked up my RL from dealership service dept -- they replaced brake switch for cruise and tightened mirrors. Now, my touch door handle on driver side isn't locking. This is probably covered under the short warranty too. I do love drivin it though it seems like upkeeps gonna cost some $!

You bought a car with numerous gadgets which enhance the driving experience but also increases the cost of ownership if they fail. No guarantees there.
I had an issue with my driver side door handle lock after first buying my car 5 years ago. They replaced the handle and I haven't had an issue since.
Waited too long to purchase an extended warranty for my '06 and now would have to find a party other than Acura which I decided against. Confidence is high that I'll hit the 100K mark with no major issues. My car has about 75K miles, and has been my best car purchase, no contest.
I have been casually looking at other vehicles for the past year, but can't find anything worth sacrificing my car for.The RX may be my next vehicle if the production model is enough to peak my interest.
