***Acurazine Holiday Toy Drive 2005 (Toys for Tots)***

https://acurazine.com/forums/ramblings-12/acurazine-holiday-toy-drive-2005-a-325947/#post4544420

As some of you may know here on Acurazine the only big push for fundraising we do is the Toys for Tots around christmas time. See the link above for information. Think about the smiles you can put on all the kids faces this year with a small donation.

We are pushing for $4,000 this year.

I know Rob. Just trying to inspire a little more - besides I would rather say something rather than just bump the thread
Thanks for donating

Sincerest apologies Vik, but I'm one of these old farts who is absolutely paranoid about giving out my credit card number on the internet. Instead, I just gave $500 to Santa's Anonymous, a local charity here that gives toys to needy children. Sorry I couldn't help out with meeting your goal, I absolutely believe in the cause that you are promoting. I also just gave $3000 to our local humane society since my wife and I are both dog lovers and our local animal shelter recieves no government funding of any kind. I'll spare you guys the rest of the list of the charities that we give to. Keep up the good work vik!!
P.S. Okay one more - we give a bunch to our local Crimestoppers, an organization that funds payments to anonymous tipsters to the police about unsolved crimes. Criminals just piss me off. Sorry for the shameless promotion of a couple charities that we strongly support.

hondamore. I completely understand. It is also understandable that you have your own charities that you like to donate to. I am sure everybody does . Personally, I only donated $100 to the toys for tots through AZine. The majority of my donations go to The Hunger Project (thp.org) - mainly because they don't just GIVE the money away. They loan it to cities that need help building up an economy - then it is paid back to the hunger project to be used in another location.

I never give money to the Red Cross anymore - for two reasons, one, they get donations from just about everybody when disaster strikes - and I feel that the other smaller charities lose out on money. [Begin rant] Second, because after 9/11 I had made t-shirts and sold them on ebay/ wtc9-11.com and advertised that the profits went to the red cross. Well, of course, I gave the profits to the red cross. $3.85 went to the USPS for mailing the shirts (which I charged whoever was buying the shirt); $4/shirt went to the high school where I work/ (and at the time was a student) for the cost of the shirt and the ink. The other $6 went to the red cross. Well, the local police came knocking to arrest me for "scamming the red cross." The story eventually came out that the red cross had called the police because they thought I was doing a lot of business and keeping the funds for myself - like some of the assholes who were actually taking advantage of the situation. The didn't end up arresting me (although did have an arrest warrant) because I showed them the bank statements and all the reciepts from the donations proving I donated every single penny to the red cross (and extra ontop of that from my own personal fund). At any rate, I think it is understandable why I no longer donate to the red cross. [end of rant]
