Trying out Grabber HTS60 255/55R18 Tires on OEM 18x7.5 wheels

Just leaving this here to post pictures and after thoughts.
My RDX has a old beat set of 235/60R18 Michelin Premier LTX tires on them. One gave out last week and the rest of the tires were well past due for an upgrade so I did some looking for what i could do on the factory wheels.

Time for an Upgrade

My brother has a new CRV, and went one size up with his tires from 235/60 to 245/60's and they looked a lot better. I've always wondered what the next size up would look like, so today I'll be getting a set of General Grabber HTS60 255/55 tires installed. If anything the rolling diameter should be closer with the lower profile 255's vs the taller 245/60's. The 255/60's are the same size and profile tire as those found on older MDX's, but those use a 8" wheel instead of a 7.5" RDX wheel. Quite curious if that extra 0.5" of an inch will make much a difference, but the tire size is stated to fit barrel range. Ive seen many people ask questions about them online, but no one really has any photos or impressions, so those will be here.

Brothers 245vs235 tires for reference...

Brothers CRV with 245/60R18 Left, Old RDX Tires with 235/60R18 on the right

I was able to get the tires and the install for a good price since I work at a shop, so shop rates on parts and labor help offset this experiment (+ the $70 rebate to boot)

as you'll find out; tire's are subjective to the user/use, ie; user preference!
the grabber's tread looks more aggressive more of an off-roader type of tire...if you generally head into the dirt and do light off-roading type of stuff, this tire will benefit you!
if you do more highway/street driving, then maybe an all season non-truck type of tire would work better!

tires are dependent on use.

Yeah I needed a good compromise of highway compliance with better grip for some occasional mountain trips with dirt and light snow 3-4x a year. The car is a 2WD model, so I didn't want pure highway tires on there when I go off the paved road every now and then. Grabbers seamed to offer an interesting value proposition against the more expensive Michelin Defender M/S's, and since General is just the Sub-brand of Continental, I feel no qualms giving them a shot. (Ive used Conti DWS06's on my ILX in the past, and when those were due for a change, I switched to the more affordable General AS05's and love them just as much. I'm hoping these generals give me the same feeling.

the good thing about tires, is that when they wear out you can always experiment with different types and different brands!

it's usually what I do, in order to find a tire I really really enjoy!
hope to hear your thoughts on the Grabber's!

I've been really wanting an older 4runner! wouldnt mind throwing on a truck tire/light off-road duty tire on!

So far they fit well and drive smooth. No rubbing lock
to lock.

Just bumping this thread with some updates after 6+ months.

The 255/55 size tires are def a great fit for the car. Ive had zero issues with rubbing, speed being off, milage differences, etc. Just a nicer wider tire that doesn't affect the rolling size any. The grip and ride quality on the Grabber HTS60 still feels great. For anyone thinking of upgrading tires and want to try out the size on those factory wheels, 255/55 is where its at for sure.

This afternoon, I just put all-weather tires on the stock rims of my 2018 Tech… thanks to you, I went for the 255/55R18 in Goodyear Assurance Weather Ready flavour…

…I never liked how empty the wheel wells looked with the stock tires. This appears to resolve that cosmetic gripe… and give the car a meatier looking track, *almost* like say… BMW or Alfa Romeo… not quite… but better than stock.

I’ll post pictures after my next wash… it’s messy and snowy out here. 😝
