Chains, Cables, etc?
Chains, Cables, etc?
Hi All ... Any recommendations for tire chains/cables for occasional snow/ice purposes? My RDX AWD won't see enough bad weather to warrant snow tires -- as we only get snow once every 30 years or so -- but I do like to drive to the mountains for a little skiing a few times a year.
Any guidance would be appreciated!

Here is a link to Thule snow chain sizes for passenger cars and SUV/CUVs:

It looks like Thule XB-16 size 247 will fit tires 235/60/18. I don't think the on-line documentation has been updated for the +2013 models for fitment. Thule can be a little expensive for just 2 chains; but, they seem to get 4-5 out of 5 stars on the majority of reviews compared to cheaper brands. On my 08 RDX, it was only recommended to use chains on the front tires because of sh-awd. Don't know if the +2013 awd RDX has the same requirement.

The CHP in those ski areas do not normally stop 4WD s on Highway 80 etc but if you do get stopped they ask if you have chains. I used to carry them when I went up there almost every weekend but really never had to put them on. You might want to carry cables instead they satisfy the CHP and are less expensive and easier to put on.
