Starter cutoff relay

Hey guys,

I have. 2013 Acura RDX and I’m trying to locate the starter cutoff relay . I cannot find any videos of where it’s located .

Is it the 5th one down on the right side ?

Hi,

the issue I’m having is I have a 2013 Acura RDX and about 9 months ago I had a check starter message pop up and disappear it would reappear quickly on the display screen and then go away. Now for the past 3 months it’s a steady message on the display of the car. I have replaced the starter 2 weeks ago, battery has been replaced 1 year ago and is testing good. I’ve read some stuff online that says it could be the starter cutoff relay . Or do you know what it could be ?

Lord, these cars are getting overly complicated. I'd love to know what factors in a starting system would give you a warning message?

And what does that starter cutoff relay do? On an early 80s Mazda, they had a wire coming off the alternator to keep a starter relay open so that you could not engage the starter with the engine running. Is that the same thing? I never tried pushing the start button when my RDX engine is running, why would I, but maybe it is a safety device to protect the ring gear.

So when I start the car I have to hold down the push to start for 5-10 seconds to start the car.. before it would start just by tapping it .

You may want to ask dave08902 for a service manual request in the top Sticky section of the forum home page. Dave has been very generous in providing information from the service manual to the forum users.

OK I think I might understand the system.

It sounds like the "Push to Start" closes a relay to start the vehicle and once the engine starts, the engine sends feedback to the relay to disengage the starter via that relay. There may be more to it than that like a "time-out" feature.

Did you post something in the RDX Factory Service Manual Requests thread asking for a schematic of the system? I'd like to see it.

I did a bunch of research and never found a starter relay issue in any of this generation of Hondas in general. Most were for Accords in the 2002 model year range.
The MDX of the last generation also had some posts around the web about a starter relay. In those case, that relay was under the dash.
