Rear Seat fold down release cable adjustment

The release levers which are on each side of the cargo area don't always work as intended. Pulling the lever releases the seat only about 50% of the time, at other times i have to push the seat to release it from the latch. I tried to diagnose the problem and my conclusion is that the wire which goes from the lever to the seat needs to be tightened (adjusted). I just don't know whether a simple cable adjustment method is available or should I have to disassemble the mechanism to get to the cable.

Any help is much appreciated.

How about spraying the "latch" with some WD-40?

Thought about that, but upon closer inspection I've noticed that the latch is well lubed and the problem is with the latch not opening wide enough when the remote lever is used. There is no such problem with the release mechanism that's on the top of the seat and it opens the latch fully and the seat folds down without my intervention. I am still curious to know whether the remote cable tightness is adjustable "a la hand/foot brake style". Thanks for the suggestion though.

Well, try to see inside the side panel where the handle is. The cable may have a threaded end like a bicycle brake cable. If it does, you may have to give it a turn or two. I'd check myself tonight, but it is pouring rain here.

Same here too. lol And I actually took the plastic piece off where the handle is, and removed the two screws, but that didn't reveal any adjustment possibilities

Have you taken the plastic trim cover off that goes around the latch? There are two push in type grommets that you will have to remove. I tried doing mine, but they are very tight. I did however see that the seat cover has a zipper. Follow it down to the seat hinge, pull up on the velcro flap, and pull out the zipper. Once you get that plastic cover off, you can unzip the seat cover and get a look at the latch to see if it has an adjustment.

Is you're car under warranty? There is a service bulleting for cable replacement or adjustment. otherwise you're have to take the side trim off in the corner of the rear door to get to the adjusment.
