Rear rotor resurfacing at 15K miles - RDX
Hi All,
I was getting a vibration when I brake and I asked my dealership to check it during my B16 service (around 15K miles). He took a test drive ans says that the rear brake rotor has to be resurfaced, the pads are good though.
This is not even covered under warranty and would cost me about $420.
How could the rotor go bad with just 15K miles, this is either poor construction or the dealer is not inspecting it correctly or maybe he is trying to make $410 out of me (which is outrageous).
He said it depends on the driving style. I drive 70% in the city and 30% on highways, but no matter how badly one drives or how frequently brakes 15k miles is hard to digest.
Has anyone faced this issue with so fewer miles? (I can understand if it is over 40k miles).
Is it worth getting it resurfaced, or just change it altoghether with a better performance rotor and pads? what would be the cost difference/value?

I bought these last year for Mine.Very happy with them. No rusty looking rotors. https://www.am-autoparts.com/product...68.html?m=1176
We had a 2003 TL, and the front rotors would only last 10 - 12,000 miles before they had to be "turned or machined" commonly known as resurfaced. The first time around, the dealer did it for free, the next time I took it to an independent shop where they had a machine that would do the job without taking the rotor off of the car... took the tire off, place the machine on the rotor and a few minutes later, job done. Not too expensive either.
After having to do this every 10,000 or so miles, I replaced the rotors myself, about a 2 hour job, and I after 30,000 miles, they were still doing great... no pulsating or such.
I'm thinking that Acura uses sub standard steel for their rotors and they'll warp at not too high of a temperature.
If our RDX starts having problems, I'll change the rotors out to a better quality and save the dealer hassle with full knowledge that it's only a short term solution if they're re-surfaced.
