New (to me) 2017 RDX FWD Transmission Help
New (to me) 2017 RDX FWD Transmission Help
Just got my SUV last week. Been driving a Ford Transit 350 for 5 years so this is da'bomb! I notice that I can "feel" the shifting - not a clunk but not like a hesitation. BUT, today was different - Heavy rain, traction control warning on cash blinked on and off a couple times. I never lost control but I felt that I didn't have control as it seemed (I could have imagined) to fishtail. I'm not a tech guy so I'm looking for input or suggestions. Thanks, Don in Jersey
There are likely two things going on. one the dealer can fix, the other you have to do yourself.
First the dealer, there are a couple of service bulletins on flashing the transmission software and replacing the fluid.
To get these done, you may have to present complaining about feeling a "judder" from the transmission. If you go in
asking for a particular TSB to be done, some dealers can be chicken do do about that. Best, unless you know your service writer,
to just complain about symptoms.

The second thing you have to do yourself is muzzle the VCM. This engine shuts down three cylinders to save fuel. The only fuel it really saves is for Honda.
They need to lower their corporate average fuel economy numbers. This is how they try to do it. While this set up works about as well as it possibly can in an
Acura, folks still feel it kicking in and out. In some of their these V-6 engines it has been a disaster. Specific ones that your RDX is not a part of. But having all 6 cylinders
all the time is very satisfying. It may or may not prevent future issues. Just be aware that the sellers of these devices can lay it on a little thick. And it is true that some of
the Honda V-6 engines with this hare brained scheme it is essential.
The two best are:
S-VCM
VCMTunerII Advanced
I will let you Google those on your own. You do not have to do the second thing, start with the trans and see if that solves this for you enough. When both the trans
judders while the VCM is engaging/disengaging it can be quite noticeable.
You do not say how many miles are on your RDX or where you bought it. But you should be informed that regular transmission fluid changes are a normal Honda/Acura thing.
The MID will set a code for that service either at the fourth oil change or the sixth, depending on what the algorithm decides. A normal drain & fill replaces about 1/3 of the fluid.
Just a refresh of the chemical additives. The TSB calls for replacing all the fluid, most because if it has jerked enough, without the new software, the fluid can be quite degraded.
Also: check your tires pressures if the model you have does not display them. Dealers can let vehicles go off their lots with some pretty wild disparity in pressures.

You Asked
The RDX was purchased from CarMax and has about 49K on it. I'm (somewhat) confident that they inspect and perform "normal" service needs but I am equally confident that they don't do a deep dive.
Tire pressures are good BUT all 4 tires are at or below 5/32. I can't say that in the heavy rain the vehicle may have hydroplaned either?
