Low-speed engine rumble

When driving my 2013 RDX at low speed, 35-45 MPH, I often get a deep rumbling or growling noise coming from the engine compartiment, particularly when I let off the accelerator or when I accelerate lightly. Almost like the engine is lugging. Anyone else experience this?

I'm encountering something similiar but at very low RPM (1000-1500). I'm bringing it in for an oil change Friday, I'll post with the outcome as soon as I know more. It seemed to start since I filled a few times with regular octane (87) after the Hurricane up here in the north east this fall.

Same here. Quite annoying. Started around the same time as my first service (approx 10K) I'll be interested to hear if something is found. Really feels like it is shifting up too early for the driving conditions. I usually use the paddle shifters to gear down and temporarily stop it.

It's probably the VCM.. 3 and 4 cylinder mode. Just a characteristic.. the Pilot and Oddy that use the same engine occaissionally do it.. usually not. This was much worse when VCM first came out back in 2008 on the Accord...

I encounter the same problem. I found it really annoying. Dealer said Acura is working on the problems, which has to do with the VCM and programming issues. Let me know if ever someone gets a fix for this.

Add me to the list of those that are experiencing this issue. I only find it mildly annoying.

They will never come out with a true fix for it. It's a characteristic of the VCM, the engine running on 3 and 4 cylinders instead of all 6. The GM and Chrysler V8's that have their own VCM that run on 4cyl mode do the same thing. You should be lucky of your new Acura. When Honda first came out with this on the then all new 2005 Oddyssey minivan (3 or 6 cyl) and the all new 2008 Accord V6, it could be pretty bad... the vibration thing, esp with the radio off. I know, I had both vehicles. They have improved it over the generations.

My now 2011 Oddy Touring van and 2013 RDX are vastly improved VCM vs those first generation systems.

2005 GTO, modified

same thing here

I am having the same problem and I find it VERY annoying. It is a rumble noise when I let up the gas and can happen in expressways as well as city driving; it is so annoying that I tend to press the gas pedal to get rid of this noise (which increases the possibilities of speed tickets).
I love the engine noise at high RPMs but I hate it below 1500 (when that stupid noise happens). It makes me feel as I am driving a big bus or something like that.

It seems to me that this problem was not as bad when the weather was warmer. In any case, I am sure they'll find a fix soon. I have a feeling the vibration is due to the VCM (3 cylinder mode), which is why you don't feel it when you mash the throttle to step out of VCM.
