Dealer Changed Oil On my 2013 RDX

Hi All,
Here we go with another oil post...
My car is a used 2013 RDX all wheel drive with 90k miles, purchased it with 60k miles on her. I am needing to do another oil change, but may do it myself...
At my local Acura dealer, had an oil change at 87k miles, they had a special, but it was $100 total and not $69 like they said. They added a can of Advance Formula MOA(BG44K). So if I am correct, they add this product, to in-hanse the properties, that their synthetic Acura bulk oil doesn't have?
Bulk Oil , 0w-20 $24.95, washer $0.58, filter $9.30, oil additive $21.99 for a total of $56.88 and labor was $38.07. Grand total for oil and tire rotation was $144.36.
Is there a reason that they are adding an oil additive at $21.99 per can? If they are putting in a 0w-20 oil, then adding an additive, which makes it thicker. It won't flow as freely in the tighter tolerance motor? Am I missing something?

Moving forward, can I just buy a Wix oil filter and 0w-20, Idemitsu 0w-20 or 5w-20 with out the oil additive? Or go with a Motu oil, that I use in my motorcycle, which is a ester based oil?
Thanks,
Mark

Just a quick question, is the Idemitsu oil the same as Acura Honda oil?

Honestly, I think you’re overthinking this. It’s a mass produced Honda corporate V6 used in just about everything, not some low production handbuilt AMG motor. Any brand of oil is going to be more than adequate.

You may be correct on over thinking it...
What are your thoughts on the dealer adding the oil additive? That is why I was thinking of something like the Motul oil, which is an ester based, which I use in my all Ducatis.

I'm surprised as you are that the dealership would do anything that costs them more money, unless they charged you for the "additive"?

The forum where you originally posted, the AcuraZine User Help, Support & Suggestions Area , is meant for problems, comments, and suggestions for the website itself. so I moved your thread to the car specific forum applicable to your vehicle.

This was explained in the sticky thread at the top of that forum, or click here if you can't find it, which will explain why you shouldn't have posted your thread there.

I wouldn't want a dealer to be adding things without asking. Sounds like they scammed you. I would've raised hell with them trying to charge me for something I never asked to be installed in my vehicle...

Yeah I bet they didn’t even actually add anything. They don’t call them stealerships for nothing

Just use oil that meets Acura's specifications. The additive probably won't cause harm, but it's not necessary or typical. You described a very deceptive business practice by this dealer - advertising a low price then adding unauthorized additional items to inflate the price. I wouldn't go back.
