CV joint rattling???

Patient is a 2014 Base RDX AWD with about 5000 miles. Problem started at about 2500 miles and seems to be getting more noticeable.

From a stop, when I release the brakes to idle forward, there is a faint rattle/clunk coming from the Drivers side front wheel. I can feel it in the gas pedal as well. It seems to go away once you depress the accelerator pedal, it only shows up at idle speed when coming off the breaks or depressing the brakes. At first I thought maybe it was in the brake unit itself, or possibly a bad wheel bearing. Hoping maybe it was just something loose that needed to be tightened, I drove the front wheels up on some ramps and started poking around. Finally, I think I've found the culprit. The photo below (taken from underneath the car) shows a shaft that extends out of the differential. If I grab this shaft and wiggle it, I can hear play and rattling in the drivers side CV joint. Its odd, because this shaft is on the opposite side of the differential and connects to the passenger side drive shaft. I don't feel this is the "unbalanced propellor shaft" problem. Anyone else had this issue?? The dealer is about and hour away and will require me taking time off of work to get this investigated. I have a fear that I will get the dreaded "we couldn't reproduce the noise" line.

To clarify which part I'm wiggling, its the intermediary shaft between the passenger wheel drive shaft and the differential. But the sound is showing up in the "Drivers side" CV Joint. Confusing I know.

can't help you with your problem but the dealer should be able to reproduce that and get you fixed up. when you make the appointment, you tell them you need a loaner

I have the exact same noise right now. My car is at the dealer. For mine, I get the noise when the car hits small bumps on the road. Sometimes it's louder than usual. It sounds like a knock/clunk. The dealer can't figure out what is going on. They replaced the full right shock assembly and no luck.

axles will clunk over time especially high milage ones that have been exposed to harsh roads. my axles clunk a little but it does not concern me too much as they are not clicking and the boots are all intact

Update - Dealer says the noise I am hearing is coming from the shock tower assembly. They had to order the part, taking it back in on Thursday for replacement.

Mine is intermittent... I told the dealer the noise is coming from the left side, the dealer replaced the right side shocks and I told them the noise is still around. They told me to wait until it gets really loud and they will replace the left side.

radicalwillie: could you please post the part numbers they replaced? so I can tell my dealer which part to replace the next time. Many thanks!

I will say that the service department at my dealership (Courtesy Acura Denver) was outstanding, I would definitely recomend them to anyone in the Denver Metro area.

Thanks a lot for the reply and listing the parts! Seems like they pretty much replace the whole shock assembly. Did they tell you which specific part had the issue?
