Check Engine System- Catalytic Converter?
Check Engine System- Catalytic Converter?
So I've had this light come on periodically but go off. Now it seems to stay on longer. An independent mechanic said I needed a catalytic converter. Now, I had a catalytic converter replacement at 97k and thanks to this community and the feedback I received, the dealer paid for it because I had gotten a fuel injection service that damaged the catalytic converter. Fast forward, my car now has 228k miles and has done me well. My question is do I get the catalytic converter or do I just say goodbye. An independent dealer quoted me around 1400-1700 but I realize my car is just getting older and older but it seems as if the things I am getting now are "regular maintenance" not necessarily problems. Is it normal to replace the catalytic converter after 100k? Should I retire the car and just buy something else? Both the independent mechanic and Honda say my car is in "good condition". I have a 2015 RDX FWD. Thank you.
Generally I've seen OEM converters last 150k miles, sometimes more. Assuming the dealer used an OEM converter, That seems early for another converter. but I don't know anything about your RDX other than what you shared. Your mechanic is saying the vehicle is good except the catalytic converter, I would get the repair. I'm assuming this car is paid off. It's nice to not have a monthly car payment. Also you can begin saving to replace this car in a year or two.
Ditto. That's how I'd go through with it.
