The dual-zone A/C on my 15 RDX Tech has started acting strangely this summer. The first time it did this I suspected an overall A/C problem as it didn't want to cool down quickly at all, but when it seemed normal after that I didn't worry about it too much. However, the last few days in the heat of the afternoon, I have noticed that I don't get really cool air even after 20 min of driving... that is, out MY vents. The passenger's side is getting more, and cooler air no matter how I adjust the two zones. And yes I did make sure the vents are open on the driver's side!

Is there something else I can/should check for before I take it in? How bad of a fix is this likely to be?

Interesting update... it turns out that the system was low on refrigerant. Their troubleshooting showed no leaks, but when they evacuated the system they only recovered 4 ounces from a 16 oz system. Recharged the system and it's working properly again.

The service advisor explained to me that the passenger's side of the system is closer to the evaporator core, and that's why it was able to still blow a little bit of cooler air while the driver's side blew warm.

That's my data point of one. And after having a loaner, I'm not sure I'm a fan of the 3G RDX.

Not to rain on your parade but if it was low in freon there has to be a leak. Freon does not evaporate in a closed system. Having the same issue with mine and going to get the dealer to fix it under warranty. After its out of warranty I'll fix it myself if need be. I'm as hvac tech.

I didn't think that sounded right. So there IS a leak, probably just too slow to be detectable?

Happened to my friend's 2015 RDX also. Freon leaked out but no leak was found. I think it has something to do with not using A/C for long periods of time. Do you turn yours off during the winter? The theory is if the system is unused, the seals tend to dry up and shrink during cold weather and freon leaks out. In the summer,when you are trying to figure out what's going on, they expand again, and nothing is detected as leaking.

I keep my climate control on full auto all year round and the AC cycles on and off during the cold months to keep all seals pliable.

The compressor will operate if you use the front window defroster. Like everything I am now finding out the RDX is an expensive suv made with cheap components.
