2015 RDX AWD - paint bubbling on front driveshafts
I have a 15 RDX AWD Tech with 122K on it, and it spent the first 3 years of its life in North Jersey based on its Carfax, and since then I have driven it In Kentucky.
I was in for service today and they said the paint was bubbling on both front driveshafts. The pic showed some ragged paint but it was hard to discern beyond that; the advisor described it as “your driveshafts are rusting apart” and I could see some paint loss from above, but couldn’t tell otherwise.
So how urgent of a repair is this? It would have been nice if I could see it on the lift, but even then I have seen driveshafts on other vehicles that weren’t much to look at.

For example, you can see from the picture above, the #16 dynamic dampers on other Acura/Honda models tend to rust out, like the one below, and potentially separate the axle shaft as a result.
The depictions above & below are from a 3GAcuraTL.
It appears the 15 RDX AWD front axles, below graphic, do not have the #16 dynamic dampers installed as part of the axle assemblies like other Acura/Honda models.
So the dealer is bringing to your attention that your now 9 year old former NJ RDX has bubbling axle shaft paint due to salt exposure for the first 3 years of its life.
One could argue it is part of their job; on the other hand, they may also be trying to 'pad' their service profits with your hard earned money with a replacement now.
Either way, it would be prudent to 'keep an eye' on the issue, depending on how long you intend to own the vehicle, IMHO.
