Lousy looking OEM Running Boards
Lousy looking OEM Running Boards
Does anyone know the reason why the OEM running boards for the 2013/2014 RDX are so lousy looking? Is there a mechanical reason why a "normal" running board that runs the full length from the front door to the rear can't be installed? The OEM board has virtually nothing sticking out at the front door.
I've been waiting to see if some after market manufacturer is going to come out with one, but so far nothing.

could be b/c the RDX sits low enough a running board for the front passengers (most likely adults) is not exactly functional. while in the rear, the running board is useful for kids to climb into the car.
i agree it looks funny.
they offered the sport running board for the new MDX in the same fashion, while the advance running board runs the entire length of the front and rear doors for the MDX.

I actually like the look of them, and was impressed with them in the show room. I find running boards get in my way when getting in and out, marking up the back of my pants and would rather not have them.
The RDX ones however allow me to step on the back and and access my roof rack and box, very handy. On my X-Trail I don't have running boards and need to open the door and stand in the door sills.

Viper has a good point. My parents have a Denali and the running boards are huge and there is a great chance your pant leg brushes up against them. If you live in a snowy environment like I do then that means road salt on your pants.

My X-Trail doors, seal around the lower frame preventing dirt buildup thus not marking your pant legs, should you inadvertently brush them. I'm 5' 11" so it's not really a problem for me, however my wife is 5' 1" and loves that feature on the X-Trail, she was concerned with the RDX, but it seems the running boards are to her approval as well.

Have you guys tried the Advance running boards? I would assume they would fit since the work on the 16+. They run the full length and have the chrome trim. I have them and they are handy for reaching the roof during car washes or if using a roof box is needed.
I enjoy the look of the running boards. I was going to get them installed, but the dealer was asking $900 CAD. I feel the RDX sits low enough, so I would never use it, but would buy it more for appearance. I'm pretty short as well (5'6).
