DIY - Wheels color change - plastidip adventure
So I got my hands on 5 cans of plastidip anthracite gray which is a metallic gunmetal.
I figured I have this extra set of oem wheels on winters so why not experiment on them just so I can change it from time to time.
added glossifier as well to give it some shine. this is just an experiment to see how plastidip holds up to the winter elements while protecting the wheels from salt/mud etc.
heated up the dip/glossifier and shook them well.
...lets do it! i'll peel around the center emblems later. also put quarters into the lug holes so when the wheels go on, the impact wrench wont strip the dip. these will be hung to dry for a few weeks before they are put onto the car.

^I bet he figured since its able to rub off, he didnt need to mask the tires....his job looks very clean! he stayed in the lines! lol
also, obviously, a brush that agitates and picks up the plastidip, will take it off.
I take a microfiber cloth to my plastdipped parts, and it doesnt hurt it

These are winter rims... not going to spend too much time cleaning them other than hosing them off and yah, using a microfiber towel to gently clean the dipped area. not concerned with dip on the tires...that'll just peel off easily.
I'm not a dip pro..but... .... ....

Will be changing the colour again in a few weeks by adding the pearlizer. I'm hoping for a brushed aluminum look that differs from stock.

Another clean job. I like the light silver.

This is a very professional job. I like the graphite gray metallic and think that will look good on the white diamond pearl exterior color.
I wonder how these spray is going to last?

I have had white plasti-dip on my 2014 Lincoln MKZ for 2 years with no problem of peeling. I have a gasoline powered pressure washer and just spray the wheels with Awesome cleaner from Dollar Tree and hit them with the pressure washer backed off enough to not damage the plasti-dip. Works fine. I am pretty sure I could damage the plasti-dip if I put the tip right against the paint. Other mild grease dissolving cleaners should work but haven't tried them. Abrasive like steel wool would remove the plasti-dip. Considering black plasti-dip on the beak on both sides of the A emblem. Looks pretty good on Photoshopped image of the grille.
