Random play not random

I put about 1000 mp3/wma songs on a USB drive. No folders, just the music files. I select random play--either folder random or track random. Whenever I get in the car again, it plays the same sequence of music as it did the last time. Anyone know how to make it truly random?

I found the answer (no thanks to Acura!). In looking in other car manuals, it seems the radios are only capable of "seeing" a limited number of songs per folder (64, 99, 128). Since I had one big folder, I was getting the same music over and over. Putting it in folders solved the problem. I wish Acura put this info in the manuals.

Sorry to keep replying to my own post, but the solution does not really work well. After a while, I keep getting the same group of songs in the same order. Why can't Acura make a truly random play function like everyone else? I guess I'll go back to mp3s on cds, or some other solution.

I guess no one else is concerned about this.

If you have 1000 songs, that should be about 65 hours of music. If you just let the songs play in non-random mode it should be a long time until you got through all of the songs. You just need to do a random sort of the file sequence and you should be good for a month or two of driving!

There is no simple way to do a random sort. And even so, its not clear if the Acura can access all of the files.

My solution was to buy a used iPhone 4s and put my music on that let it shuffle via the iPhone.

Why not an used iPod instead?

Because you can buy a used iPhone 4s for $100 and activate it on Page Plus for $5 a month. You have a phone in the car at all times and it works just like an iPod (the RDX evens calls it an iPod). If you don't need a phone, buy a working 4s with a cracked screen or other cosmetic damage for less since you don't even need to see it after you put your music on it.
