Microphone works poorly

Microphone works poorly
The microphone on my 2013 RDX doesn't work well for phone calls. For people on the other end of the call, they have a very hard time hearing me in the car.
- Has anyone else had this problem?
- Is there any way to adjust the microphone?
- are there any after market gadgets that would help?
Thanks

I might have a similar problem. People ask me to repeat what I say a lot when using HFL, but then again I know for a fact that I speak in a low voice. So it could just be me.

Yes, mine sounds very tinny. A friend saved my voice mail that I left and it was painful to listen to. Was not sure if it was my phone, the mic, or what. I assume the freeway road noise does not help, but windows were up, fan on low.Check yours out my calling your home land line and take a listen....

I end up yelling when i use the bluetooth. I have a Galaxy S3, with a phone/tablet holder in one of the cup holders in the center console. Anyway, I've talked to several people using the bluetooth, and they said they can barely hear me. But when I use my GS3's speaker phone/mic, they can hear me loud and clear. So I don't think it's road noise. I've had over the ear bluetooth ear pieces before, and they had the same problem (low mic volume and sometimes a delay). If you do decide to ask the dealer, please let us know what they say.

No solutions. But Acura needs to realize that any advancement with voice control and integrated Siri/Nuance technology is going to require a MUCH better mic in their vehicles. A Bluetooth headset, mic in the visor, multiple mics with noise cancellation, or something. It's not bad now for voice control, but for a conversation, forget it.

I have the same issue with our 2014 RDX. Voices sound tinny and sometimes garbled. It actually sounds like the microphone sensitivity is turned up too high if I had to guess. The same phone on the same highway in our 2012 Volvo S60 sounds perfect. there has to be a problem. Calling the dealership today.

I have a Galaxy S3 and never had an issue using the microphone / bluetooth in my 2014 RDX. I did test runs with friends to see if they could hear me correctly and if there were any issues on their end. The sound is clear and crisp. I don't have to speak louder for the microphone to pick up my voice.

We tried a few things and if I speak at a normal level, face the windshield and speak slowly it works better. I think I am going to try to put some of the foam you find on a microphone on top of the cars microphone. Maybe that will help.

Had mine in the shop last week to get a wheel bearing replaced. I mentioned to the service rep that the Bluetooth still sounded horrible. The first time they said it was my phone. Brand new Motorola-X and it's just as poor sounding. This time they ordered a new microphone. Will keep y'all updated when that arrives and gets installed.

WRONG microphone came in Wednesday, new correct one arrived Friday. Sadly NO CHANGE AT ALL. It sounds way over modulated to me. I also took an update on my phone to Android 4.4 (KitKat) but this made no difference either. This coming weekend, I'll get it sync'd with the wife's 2009 TSX and see how it sounds out of there.

Yes, I have the same problem. I just traded in my '12TL for '14 RDX. Now people tell me I sound screachy, garbled and some of my words are cutting out. I have been told it sounds absolutely horrible.

My dealer changed out the microphone as advised by the Acura/Honda Tech Line but nothing has improved. This only happens at highway speeds (North of 40mph). I spoke the the Tech Line people myself this morning and was told that they're working on it but no solution has been found.

Here it is January, had any results from Acura on this issue? It is no wonder the voice recognition doesn't recognize anything I say. Guess it doesn't understand "garbled". When I asked it to find hotels it found all the police stations in the entire Portland area. Sigh..............

I have an appointment tomorrow to have the software updated. I found TSB 13-030 HFL System Issues calls for an update. The dealer has to read the TSB in order to determine that it's applicable to the 2013/2014 RDX. It did not show up on the list of RDS TSB's when I was in yesterday for my B1 service. When I returned to pick up the car, the Service Advisor said that it was applicable to my car and scheduled me to have the SW updated tomorrow (Friday). As mentioned earlier in this thread, I had the microphone replace a little while ago, no improvement there. I'll report back tomorrow or Saturday as to how things sound.

Well THAT didn't go as well as planned. It took an entire day for them to figure out how to load the software. Then the dealer decided just to order a whole new HFL unit for the car. I still don't think it sounds any better than it did before...

I have the same problem with my wife's '13 RDX Hands Free Link phone mic. I know it's the RDX mic, and not my phone, because my phone works fine with my '08 TL HFL mic.
Does anyone have any updates on this issue?
Thanks,

Do you have other Bluetooth devices connected to the phone? There,s a documented issue with users of the Automatic Link with several different phone and car combinations. Handsfree Link sounded terrible in my car until I yanked out the Automatic.

Searching through TSB's today (DW picked up a TLX last night and was pawing through those) when I came across this:

HFL Poor Sound Quality or Static
When the client uses the HFL, the person they are speaking with may experience poor sound quality, static or the speakers voice cutting out
Software updates to some HFL Control units.

Thanks Phil. I'll have this applied the next time I take my RDX in for a tune up. Has anyone already applied to fix and can you tell us if it helped this problem? I don't have this problem on my TL but do on my wife's RDX.
