Dash Cam - Powered by 12V Mirror Connection

Amazingly with all the high tech crap they put on vehicles these days, manufacturers can't seem to install something as useful as a USB or 3.5 mm powered outlet at the overhead mirror/dome light housing that many cars have these days. How simple a dash cam or radar installation would be instead of running a cable along the headliner, down the A pillar, under the dash to some powered outlet.

Fixed!

For $0.99 each, I ordered a few of these off eBay for my vehicles...

A bit of soldering, crimping, testing and heat shrink applied...

And the finished product...

Not bad for about $2 per install plus a bit of my time.

Well that dash cam certainly came in handy as I needed it after someone changed lanes (without looking) and hit my driver's side rear door. Just the door skin, so absolutely no damage to the door's internals or my rocker panel. I get a new factory Acura door. In my 46 years on the road, only two accidents and both "not at fault" accidents and no insurance claims.

Anyway, if you think you might not need a dash cam, think again. They can come in handy. I bought a Garmin Mini-Dash-Cam for its size and as an experiment to see how good it was before I spent more money buying two more for the Porsche (front and rear).

Dash Cams...something to think about.
