Windshield green tint
Windshield green tint
On inspecting a 2016 RDX, I noticed the usual 6" strip of dark tint at the top of the windshield was missing....
When checking the other 2016 Acura models ( MDX ILX etc ) at the Acura dealer, that tint was also missing...
Anyone know a reason why Acura has deleted this tint strip from all their windshields for 2016 ?

Today while at the local dealer to get an inspection on the wife's TL, I got to eyeball a white AWD Advance that was sitting waiting for delivery to a customer. I'll put my general observations in another thread, but for this topic, I paid attention to the windshield. There is no tint at the top, but I also know why and have photo proof.
There are actually two "sensors" on the windshield - one "camera" for the AcuraWatch stuff, and the other is the sensor for the "rain sensing" wipers. The photo below shows both of those openings in the black cutout at the center top of the windshield (sorry that the photo is a bit faint/grainy - car was in the shade). If you were to draw a line across the windshield where the tint would be, the tint would cross those two sensor openings. And given I've not seen a windshield with the tinting that doesn't run across the entire width of the windshield, I'm guessing that the sensors are why the tinting disappeared. And it also means that the windshield (OEM or aftermarket) will need to be unique for '16 and beyond - not only for the tint - but the visual openings in the black center section. (as a comparison the windshield on my son's Mini cooper has no tinting and a "window" for the rain sensing wiper options - same sort of deal).

Back of the rear view mirror...looking through the glass.
Cover the sensor and you'll see the mirror darken.
