Windows Tint for RDX 2015
Windows Tint for RDX 2015
Hi,
I have Acura RDX 2015 and we are moving to Missouri soon. Considering hot weather and harsh sun, I was searching for, if I should have additional tint. This is what I found from some internet search -->
Front side windows and windshield: These do not have significant factory tint—only the standard minimal tint for UV and shatter protection, not for privacy or shading. The visible light transmission (VLT) here is typically in the 70–80% range, close to clear glass. Use a premium ceramic ~50–55% film, which lands you around ≥35% net on OEM glass and gives a big IR/heat cut without going too dark.
Windshield: Use only AS-1 sun strip
Rear passenger windows and rear glass: These come with privacy glass that has a factory tint of approximately 20%. It can be kept same way, or else apply very light/clear ceramic (80–90% VLT)
Practically I do not know and never tried, how much it would help. We will move in September, so MO will starting to cool down from that month, I guess. My home and office, both are going to be unshaded.
Am I overthinking and keep in factory default or this is going to really help? Please share your thoughts.
Thanks

My RDX originally came from Florida (although I bought it in Idaho,) and it has a fairly high level of tint. I have found it makes a difference in the temperature of the cabin, and I am glad I have it. I have never been concerned with the 'legal' limitation of tint, although varying governments can always decide to enforce those limitations, of course. It can be a reason to pull you over, but I have lived in several states and driven in quite a few more since I bought my 2014 RDX in 2020; no one has ever offered to look at me twice. Of course, your 'mileage' may vary.

I live in south central PA and added tint to my 2017 RDX a few years ago. It has made a huge difference in the cabin temperature during the summer. I had mine professionally installed and simply asked to stay within the state limits and match the rear tint as best as possible. Like Kelsen, no issues with anyone stopping me. Make sure you get a quality ceramic tint, meaning pick your installer carefully. Lots of cheap tints out there.
Don't worry about how dark you go on the rears. It's the front and windshield they care about if you want to consider that. That being said, suggest you go with ceramic (its a bit more $) but worth it.
