Where are all the RDX's...and how many Red?
In the Boston area, owner for two weeks now, waited about 3 weeks for my Basque Red II to arrive. In that time, I have seen exactly one other 2013 RDX, in dark grey. (Have seen a handful of the 2010 style, which seems so much smaller and much more similar to the CRV donor car.) Seems like this is perhaps not as popular in this area since my dealer also has a bunch in stock -- 28 total, all but three AWD, 12 tech package. Bernardi's has 47 RDX's, one is Red. Acura of Framingham seems to have 11, none of them Red. So close to 90 in a 25-30 mile radius....
I know some other posts are noting that these are flying off the shelves, deals off MSRP are rare, Acura is hitting every sales target and then some, etc., yet seems like there is a glut in the Boston area...so what gives??
Any other Boston area members noticing this? (Not that I mind being the only RDX I ever see on the road, it is kind of fun and the wife and I both now make a habit of looking.)
Finally, is there a way to get details on the number of Basque Red's produced? Seems like it might be becoming a fairly exclusive club with only 1 out of 86 that I see are available at dealers local to me being Red....

I would have ordered the Basque Red if I could have had it with the Ebony interior here in the US. Happy with the Graphite Metal though. Anyway if the dealers don't order the Basque Red they wont get them so they either did not expect it to be popular or are selling them before they get to sit on the lot.
I watch the local dealer's internet inventory and know of only 3 red 2013 RDXs in the Tampa metro area. Mine and a red tech came in on the same truck and there was 1 other tech on a dealer web site that lasted 2 days. All FWDs. Amber Brownstone is also one you don't see in inventory.
fleuger99 -- Acura of Peabody, AWD w/tech package, 1433 off the standard Acura MSRP..38,882 for the straight car...pre tax and title and accessories. At the time of purchase, the number quoted was better than the Edmunds TMV price by close to $550, seemed like a good deal for an in demand, brand new vehicle with some "buzz". Negotiated a little on the options, just under 9% off total, sounds like I left maybe another 6-10% on the table in that regard if others are to be believed. However, buying them from the dealer and getting the warranty was worthwhile as well. Car negotiation is not a skill set I've honed given I buy cars every decade or so! But...not at all unhappy with the experience, the opposite in fact since I got some concessions and a think a reasonable price. Some have done better, but I appear to perhaps be mid-pack in this regard. We should start a thread that has a table with folks #'s as a header/sticky -- a survey perhaps that gaves options with say a five hundred dollar spread.
what did you pay for the AWD Tech package:
40,315 - 39,815
39,814 - 39,314
39,313 - 38,813
etc.

Just checked my dealer's web inventory - Smithtown Acura out here on Long Island. 37 RDX's.
3 Amber, 1 Red (happens to be AWD Tech), 16 Black, 1 Forged Silver, 6 Gray, 4 Silver Moon, 5 White
While I'm at it - 1 FWD Base, 0 FWD Tech, 22 AWD Base, 14 AWD Tech.

Acura has really restricted its exterior and interior color combinations over the years to keep cost down. I'm not sure why they can't offer any interior with any exterior? Basque Red Pearl II with ebony or taupe would be a killer combo.
I think there are fewer BRP than other colors in part because the web site pictures don't look anything like the real colour. If I hadn't seen the colour on other models on the lot, I probably wouldn't have picked it either. To be honest, until I saw my vehicle,I was a little concerned about how it would look. Having it now ... No regrets whatsoever.
Sculldog3, I've seen 2 or 3 driving around. Peabody would be my local dealer.
Question for you, did they have any other charges over and above tax and title added after the 38,882 (not counting the accessories)? Just wondering if I should be expecting some sort of marketing or other charges that might be tacked on. Thanks.

My local dealership (Ft. Wayne) bemoaned the fact that they were having a hard time getting any and when they did get them, they couldn't keep them on the lot. On July 3rd, they got a Basque Red AWD w/ Tech, which I test drove, but they said they couldn't keep any on the lot so they wouldn't deal at all (MSRP less $500 was all they'd do). I ended up buying from a dealership 100 miles away. According to the dealer's web site, the same red RDX is still sitting on the lot here in Ft. Wayne...
I'll be interested to see if it disappears before August 1st.
Otherwise, I've seen exactly ONE other '13 RDX on the roads around here.

Here in the DFW area, I think I've seen maybe 2 or 3 of the new RDX's, but then in June I think they sold something like 3000 of the things, but that's 3000 across the entire US, so I don't expect to see them everywhere yet. If they continue selling like that, we'll see them more frequently.
When we used our loaner RDX on our drive down the DC (from the NYC area), I failed to see any other new RDXs on the road. (Come to think of it, I only saw a few 1G RDXs.)
As I'm not seeing that many on dealer lots thus far, it looks like Honda may have to ramp up production to meet more of the demand.

Now I know I live in a small Canadian province and in a town where there are no Acura dealership but I have seen NO RDX so far except for two tourists (out of province/State plates). There are a few 2009-2011 TLs, and about half a dozen MDX and maybe two RDX (2008-2012)...NO RED, just my whity!
There are two dealers here in the SLC area. A total of 22 2013 RDXs in inventory, 14 AWD Base, 8 AWD Tech. Colors are 7 CBP, 6 WDP, 1 AB, 5 GL, 2 SM, 1 BRP.
As a side note, the highest build number is 7013.
I see a lot of Acura sedans and MDXs here. Only a few RDXs but I don't think I have seen a 2013 on the road. I will have to start paying more attention.
Regards, Jim

The three dealers I polled to get the total of 86 RDX's appear to have a whopping 274 MDX's available, some $14 million worth! Seems like a TON of inventory.
Also noted that since the 25th, they are down from 28 RDX's to 23, not bad for a little over 2 days!

It's funny you should say that because I've been complaining to my dealer about the piss poor selection here in the midwest. They admit to inventories being tight with RDX's selling in an average of about about 12 days. So it's no wonder prices have remained high here. Knowing I'm frustrated, he called today to ask me if I'd want an MDX if I could get it for less than the price of the RDX Tech he quoted. I drive 30,000 to 35,000 miles per year, so the MDX's fuel economy isn't going to cut it. Besides, I prefer a car that's a little more tossable, and the MDX doesn't exactly qualify. So I politely declined then drove to the BMW dealership and ordered an X1. I should have it in September.

On the same site there're about 50 2013 RDX's city-wide.

Get an MDX for... I dunno... Tuesdays and Thursdays.
Expanded the search...went to AutoTrader.com, searched for all RDX's within any distance from my zip code. Not sure if "any" is US or North America or the World..guessing it's US-centric. Also used cars.com to try and cross check the numbers.
For 2013 RDX, total of 2150 for Cars.com and 1919 for Autotrader.com, respective breakdown captured below.
Appears my beloved Red is not the rarest...looks like the amber brownstones are going to be rarer than rare. No idea on the blues and golds...I just report the data...
Red 85 or 69
Black 888 or 724
Blue 1 or 2
Brown 6 or 13
Gold 91 or 0
Grey 296 or 309
Silver 347 or 280
White 316 or 151
Other 120 or 370
For 2012 RDX...still shows 160 are available....with 8 Red (can't help it!)
The craziest numbers are for the 2012 MDX...Cars.com shows 11,109 and Autotrader shows 10,477 available.

I was thinking I could use the MDX for going to BINGO's....I could swing by and pick you up if you want to join me....Are you in?
There are 4 Acura dealers within an hour of me in MA alone, not counting one or two in RI. Between the 4 dealers in MA closer to me they have around 55 RDX's between them.
I saw my first RDX on I495 this morning heading home from my BMW bike dealer after a service. It was CBP with NY plates.

1. I find the hood too long.....Seen from the side, I just feel that something looks way off in the proportions of the vehicle.

There are only seven colors yet they report eight.
Brown or gold could both be Amber Brownstone / Urban Titanium (same color different name).
Forged Silver metallic could be reported as blue or silver.
Silver and grey as well as grey and brown are often mixed up.
). But even though I snagged the last available location within a reasonable driving distance, I still managed a decent discount, plus another $1,000 from BMW for attending a dealer event. I had it put in writing that I'm entitled to a full refund of the deposit if the car arrives and isn't to my liking for any reason. I wouldn't disagree that the X1 looks a little more like a tall wagon or a hatch than a CUV. But to be honest, that is exactly one of the things I find most appealing. I've had wagons in the past and I prefer the handling to that of a taller crossover. I also had a pretty good deal on the table for an allroad, but I felt the X1 is a better value and better suited to my wants and needs. Plus it still has hydraulic steering! Others considered: RDX, A3 (current model is outdated and the next version will be sedan only), A4 Avant (discontinued - replaced with allroad), Q5 (already have one), Q3 (Audi delayed US release yet again), XC60 R-Design (gas mileage), 3-Series wagon (not available until next summer), X3, Outback.
The M Sport adds full body paint (no gray fender flares or cladding), sports suspension, M steering wheel w/paddle shifters, sports seats, body kit, gloss black exterior trim, crosshatch aluminum interior trim, staggered summer tires, and a higher top speed limit.
Needless to say, my expectations are high. I drive 30,000 to 35,000 miles per year for my business, so the gas mileage is pretty important to me. I should know sometime in September if I made the right decision. Fingers crossed!
No - I did not get a chance to drive it. The X1 won't be available until September. I have driven the X3 and 3-Series numerous times to get a feel for the 2.0T powertrain and its auto-stop/start feature. I also researched the heck out of it, and read every review I could find. I placed a refundable deposit for an early allocation just yesterday. I'm going with an M Sport in Le Mans Blue over tan leather. (I had selected the coral red leather but chickened out for fear it would be too much.) The X1 is decently equipped and surprisingly affordable if you can keep the options under control (I did not

...and I know that looks is a very subjective thing but there are two things I just can't seem to get over as far as the X1 is concerned:
1. I find the hood too long.....Seen from the side, I just feel that something looks way off in the proportions of the vehicle.
2. I know alot of people hate the fact that Acura took away the dual exhaust on the RDX and hid everything underneath the rear bumper but in my opinion, the X1 is on the other extreme. The MDX is a very nice SUV, and if I had a large family or valued comfort over sportiness I'm sure I would have jumped at the offer. But it's just not me. (And the gas mileage at 30,000+ miles per year? Fugetaboutit!)
The aesthetics are common for a RWD chassis -- long hood and short front overhang. I don't mind the looks at all. Some FWD-based crossovers, like my Forester for example, have a really long front overhang that I find off-putting. And the exhaust on the X1 is very conservative - a single or twin finisher offset to the driver side only.

About the exhaust, its not the single pipe on one side that offends me, its when you look at the rear pics (and the actual vehicle), notice that hanging exhaust that is visible...not the tail pipe but the big metal square box hanging down...why couldn't BWM engineer design something more pleasing to tuck that thing a bit further up and just allow the tip to be shown. That to me is just plain unacceptable......and I am one of those weird individuals that once I notice things like that, I just can't get over it.
I hear you about the fuel consumption of the MDX....I had one for a day to try out and the average fuel consumption that day somewhat scared me away too and thus the reason I chose the baby MDX for my Rav4 replacement. I getting great mileage on the RDX and do not regret my move whatsoever....I still have the Q5 in the back of my mind once in a while *lol*
and BTW.....Congrats on the new ride too
