Water drop on backup camera
Water drop on backup camera
The backup camera works really good especially the 3 different viewing angles. However, the water drops will sit on the camera and blocking the view during a rainy day. Has anyone have this issue?
I have tried to apply the rain-x on the lense but doesn't work and water drops still sit on the lense. I live in a city with a lot of rains so I really need a solution to solve this problem. I would appreciate if anyone knows a solution and share in this forum.
I haven't come up with anything that works yet, usually when I'm going to be backing up it's after I've just gotten into the car, so I'll just wipe the lens off before I get in.
If would be really handy if they had some kind of cover that went over it, and when you put it in reverse the cover slide open.

Just picked up our new RDX thursday Dec 6 , first rainy day drive, back up camera visibility sucks big time , can't see were your going, probably would have thought twice before buying if I new it was that bad ! I was driving at night , visibility really bad, hope I can find solution to this.
Yes, I have the same issue on my 2013 RDX. I think it is partly due to bad design, the camera face needs to be angled downward and placed underneath the lip above the license plate to prevent water drops settling on it. I did not have this issue on the backup camera on my Altima. I've noticed a few very basic design snafus on this car that has greatly reduced my opinion on the Acura engineering team...
I keep a shop towel in the car that I use to give the lens an occasional wipe. What enables the camera to provide such a wide view also makes it susceptible to this problem.
Personally I find this to be a fairly minor issue. What did you people rely on prior to the advent of back up cameras?
Your driving skills of course!

Rain shield that works great
I found a product that I have used and it works perfect! It is a glass-like clear, adhesive mount plastic sheild that is easily removable. You can't see the shield in the camera view and it doesn't matter the intensity of the rain - it shields it all, even water from the road. You can buy them here - http://www.ebay.com/itm/Back-up-Came...a4c121&vxp=mtr
If only Acura had the system like Hyundai does on their Elantra GT, yes I said Elantra, where they have the lens flip open from under the "H" when backing up and when driving foreward it flips back down keeping it clean. This on a car that Maxes out @ $26,000 CDN.

Good idea but the problem I see with the camera shield is that the RDX lens is convex so how does the shield stick to the camera with so little surface for amounting?
I know some backup camera has a flat lens cover the camera lens so the shield would have a flat surface to stick to.
Have you use it and would you mind put a photo up here for us to see how it stick to the camera?
