Post Things just got real.

Just applied for an Auto Loan from my bank.
They had pre approved me but a rival bank offered me a quarter of a percentage less. Called my bank and they matched it, plus beat it (by a hair).

Now by setting up automatic payments, they trim another quarter.

If I use their car buying service (which would set an AWD with Tech at 38.2) they'd shave off another quarter.

APR would end up being .99%.

Next step? Get the ball rolling with the car buying service.

Pardon if I sound like a little kid but you'll understand once I explain this:

My first car was an '84 Volvo DL (oh how I loved it) bought used by my parents to me as a going to college gift. When that car died, my parents put their name on the line (0 down though ) and got me a 2003 Toyota Echo (they picked everything). After I moved out of state, I bought my Aunt's 2001 Corolla. Sold that and bought my buddy's 2004 Infiniti G35.

Long story short, the RDX will be the absolute first vehicle I have ever rolled off the lot with the color and options I have wanted to. So yes, yes I do feel like a lil kid although I'm in my 30s.

Silver Moon with Ebony, AWD, Tech, Wood trifecta (I really dig that), the door bumpguards, mud guards, rear bumper treatment and hitch.

I'll get the weathertechs, cargo cover and other misc online since it's so much cheaper.

Maaaaaaaaan I'm amped!

Sose, that's a great rate. You beat my credit union offer of 1.75% which also requires going through their car buying service.

I don't know... I'm not entirely sure that he's been honest with me.

Let's see what he says. I asked him two questions on my reply: do you have the silver moon with black available and what is the out the door price. He dodged my second question.

I feel you. Yeah man, buying a new car harkens me back to when I was just a little tike and the parents made a special trip to Toys R Us (sadly wasn't very often).

I swear, I was just bewildered in awe when I was in that store and felt like I left a magical place when I came out with a new toy. Giddy and all. Lol. I get that same feeling buying a new car and taking it home for the first time.

Congrats!

I wouldn't say he was employing a trick. Let's just say he took to an assumption and didn't didn't disclose another bit.

The prize I put up included an Active Military incentive and an Acura financing incentive.

I am neither active military nor will I finance with Acura.
His price shot up to 37,900. Not bad, but I'm working with another dealer to see how that one does.

i can tell you which dealer in the area will probably give you the better deal and not play games, but i think you'll figure that one out.

you're already at $40 over invoice inc destination. i dont' pay attention to MSRP. hell for that kind of money i'd pay the $2-3k more and get an MDX.

I took TLtrigirl's advice and went with another dealer that was a lot more straightforward than the one I had been dealing with.

The out the door was $38k.

I'm actually heading out of my office now to clear it and then heading to CarMax and see how much they'd give me for it. Then I'll take their quote and if higher than what the dealer told me over the phone, they'd match it.

I'll let you guys know what I end up being able to accomplish.

Stay tuned.

Exclamation

So I picked her up on Friday night.

Haven't driven her more than 50 miles but I'm already in love. I have and will miss my old G35 but this is just completely different. My G was so nimble that it sort of encouraged me to drive more aggressively but the RDX is just so danged smooth that I enjoy the ride more than the drive.

The GF hasn't complained about the passenger seat. In fact, the only complaint I've gotten from her is the fact that I chose to add the wood trim ("Wood grain on black?!").

So far, the car has been everything I expected and then some. I love how smooth it rides, how comfortable it is and how quiet it is. This will certainly be a harbinger of good road trips.

I'll post pictures up sometime later this week. I have to take some more and didn't have time this weekend.

Thanks to TLtrigirl for the advice. It was certainly useful.

FWIW, I got it out the door for 38,017 but since I chose to add the wood trim I paid another 1k. Wound up getting 11k for my G plus with some more on down payment brought down my financed amount to 23k. Not bad for a brand spankin' new AWD with Tech!!

What dealer did you use?
I went with Pohanka in Chantilly. I'm very impressed how those guys up there work. Kudos to them (Jamal and Rob).

Congrats on the new car.

I'm a USAA member and that price is pretty attractive. Never used their buying service before, but I have a feeling I need t check it out when it comes time for my next car.

You should certainly consider it! It was a platform, imho, to start the negotiation at a lower number and to prove I was ready to buy. I hate the negotiation aspect of such a big purchase so this was right up my alley. USAA also gave me a quarter point reduction to my rate if I used their service, plus another quarter if I set up automatic payments. Add to that the fact that they matched and beat a competitor's rate after I called to tell them about it.

I love USAA.

Been a member for 29 years. They are the best insurance company. Not always the cheapest though.
