Your Acura dealer should be able to give you either a loaner car or a rental car until the parts come in. You shouldn't have to pay anything. You might want to check this out.

For those of you who recently had their airbag replaced, are they replacing driver only or both front?

Finally got my 2015 RDX back. The invoice states, "Installed driver side airbag inflator." I had a rental for about 5 weeks, but I was ok with parking my RDX in my driveway and putting 1700 miles on a free vehicle. Best of luck to everyone else who still has to wait to get their vehicles fixed.

SOOOOOOOOOOO happy go get the RDX back... all fixed up and cleaned!

Takata airbag inflators-draimyx.jpg

they gave me a 2016 RDX as a loaner so that was kinda nice although I'm now convinced that if you're looking to upgrade from a 2013-15 tech, its not worth it. IMO.

The experience at the service dept was terrible though. This particular dealership has this 'dragon lady' on staff...she is rude and crude.. I almost lost it on her but kept my cool. It is incredible that they keep people like her on staff - she's better off as a KIA rep. People who live in Vancouver will know who I'm referring to at this Richmond based Acura dealership.

2016 RDX Loaner:

I had a good laugh on this one. I once owned a mazda and got treated like crap by the service writer at the dealership. I wanted warranty work and was going out of my way to be nice, but she was downright NASTY! Finally, I calmly asked her if she was having a bad day or if she was having a bad life. Someone overheard our conversation and came out at this point and apologized for the way I was being treated and took care of my work order in a very friendly manner.

Congrats on getting fixed! Obviously we're not getting honest answers when we ask about availability in parts. I called your dealership and got the "there will be another letter in the autumn" line.

Meanwhile, the other dealership still hasn't got me a rental car and it's been nearly a month. Left a message for the service manager but won't hear back until tomorrow.

Acura seems to be all over the place on this one. My original selling dealer told me they couldn't get a loaner/rental, and I would hear from them before Corporate Acura. I asked if there was a list, they told me no. Well, that didn't happen. A friend who is a service manager at a Honda dealer did some research, found that my airbags were not ordered, he contacted another Acura dealer, ordered the part for me, and I picked up a rental today. They were happy to help and now gained a new customer.
The only issue at this point, I didn't know Ford made such small cars. I will be swapping it as soon as I can!

inflator

I'm at the service department now to get my inflator installed ....hopefully everything goes smoothly with the process. A member mention that they did a horrible job with the installation where they damage the the steering wheel with scuff marks as well as leaving oIL finger prints on the seat.. I took before pictures of the car just in case anything occurs wish me luck.

Sounds like that dealer just had a sloppy technician. My inflator replacement was done and it looked just like it did before. So hopefully that won't happen.

Profit over human life.

It's not unusual in many businesses.
Especially the auto industry.
GM knew of the ignition fiasco for over 10 years but decided to do nothing because it was cheaper to pay claims than do a recall.

Okay, so Acura denied me any compensation as I feel I lost money on trading my 11 RDX with the airbag recall and I have a 14 RDX as well. So they said I could get a rental for my 14 which would sit in my garage and to call my dealer and they would let them know it is okay to get the rental. Of course my dealer said they never called them and also said there is a waiting list for rentals of at least a month or more. I said okay, then I will get a rental of at least $50 per month on my own and asked to be reimbursed as per Acura's letter. Amazingly a 2017 RDX Tech came in for me that day (Thursday), with 500 Kms on it.

If you can believe it, Friday I received a call from Acura that my airbag part is in and it must be installed within 5 days or they will no longer pay for the rental.

Boy are they ever playing a big game. Good thing I love Honda's, and won't pay more for a Lexus or I would buy elsewhere.

So I guess my part was fast tracked about 4-5 months based on advice from Acura that it would be fall before they had the part.

Go figure.

Good to know. We only got a rental for my wife's 16 RDX. Didn't want to get one for the TL since its show season but it also sat in the shop for three weeks getting air suspension installed. I have it back now so hopefully it shows up soon.

Received a notice that driver's airbag replacement is targeted for "Autumn 2016". My dealer is in London Ontario. They will notify me when parts are in.

Looks like things are moving ahead for some of you.

The inflator on the wife's '12 TL was replaced last week, but so far no word on my RDX one. I'm happy it was done in this order, since her TL is older and had more heat/humidity cycles than my RDX - so was at higher risk. Not sure when the RDX one will come - but considering we decided to continue driving the vehicles and not get a rental, I figure that I'll get the next unassigned one after the stop-sale and rental-provided vehicles get fulfilled. The TL one came a bit sooner since the vehicle it was assigned to had left the country.....

Ha ha ha. That was real funny on the dealer's part. He will eat the rental costs though. I don't think Acura will reimburse them for their stupidity. .

My 08 RDX took 86 days to replace the airbag in NM. I got a copy of the bill when I turn in the rental and was a little over $4600 to Enterprise for a my Silverado LT truck (about $56 per day with rental+tax+fees). That is a lot $$ for a used car worth about $11k-12k The service manager said they are paying well over $50,000 per month to Enterprise at my local dealership for those that opt for rentals.

I'm under the impression that here in Ontario they will let us know when the parts are in, an appt is booked, and it is done same day. Bonus for you who receive a loaner.

I will tell you how I got mine. The letter from Acura say's the dealer will get you a rental or allow you to rent one. So I was told the waiting list was at least 4 weeks or more. I complained and said I would rent another RDX at about $50 per day and submit this invoice for reimbursement. Then Presto, the next day they had a 2017 RDX Tech for me "that just happened to come in". I have now had it for 3 weeks. Love driving the car which is nicer than my 14 RDX Tech, and better yet, no miles on my car.

Well, it took a friend who works for Honda, going to a different Acura dealer, and just over five weeks to get the part, two rental cars, and my '14 is fixed. Never heard from the selling dealer. Dud hear from Acura tonight about my experience. I raved about the dealer that fixed it and bashed the selling dealer. We'll see if I ever hear from Acura of Wappinger Falls, NY.

The loaners have two billing lines! The one that can be allowed for a day and a monthly. We had a bmw with 800 miles on it and it cost Acura 475 a month.

RDX 2016 'Early Production Only'

My 2016 RDX was mfg in Nov of 2015. I called Acura to find out if it was considered 'early production' and got stonewalled. Told me the only way to know which bags were used is to bring it to a dealer and have it 'taken apart', a statement I believe is false. I requested a supervisor and was told one would call within 48 hours, that was a full week ago, no return call.
Does anyone know either buy build month or VIN which 2016's do not have the defective Takata bags?

Unfortunately Acura was correct - they may not know which airbags are in your car. Herein lies the problem - In the past, airbags were treated like light bulbs. You bought from the vendor who had the best deal for your specs and filled up the parts bin. As the cars went down the line, you'd reach in and grab an airbag - if they recently switched suppliers, you might get the Continental or you might get the Takata - just like you may get a Sylvania, Osram or Bosh bulb.

It's interesting to read all of this.
I have a 2015 RDX and I live in South Florida (hot and humid pretty much all year long). I turned my car in to my dealer on March 14th. Today is June 23rd and I still have a rental. I'm wondering if I take the prize for longest wait so far.

I started with a Hyundai Sonata because it was Spring Break. They told me to come back a week later and they gave me a Chevy Equinox. That was the biggest piece of junk I've ever driven in my life. So I showed up at the rental place and demanded something else after two weeks. I saw a minivan and said I wanted it and they gave it to me. I have a 3 year old so its fine for now. I know that I never want a minivan for keeps though. I feel like a bus driver.

I know quite a few people who have already gotten their cars back.
1) My husband's cousin has an RDX in NY and she had hers fixed in 3 weeks back in March.
2) My friend, with the exact same vehicle, turned hers in on the same day and same dealer. She's had hers back for a month already.

I do not, for one second, believe that they are VIN specific. My friend who got hers back got chummy with the service manager and he took an inflator ordered for another RDX and had it put in hers. His words to her were "Rob Peter to pay Paul."

I also don't believe they are prioritizing high-need areas. Why was a vehicle in NY fixed before one in South Florida?

I called to ask for an update on my RDX today and the women taking calls at the service department was really nasty. She told me I am being impatient. Sorry lady, but no, when other people have their vehicles back already- for a while- I am not being impatient.

Half of me is okay with it because my RDX is a lease and I am just "gaining" miles for the future.
The other half of me is really irritated and I just want my vehicle back because I love it. In a perfect world I would push to trade it in for a new MDX (we have another baby on the way in December and we want more space). But the timing isnt right as we're doing some major home improvements and we don't want to suck our bank account dry this summer.
