Squeaky Brakes
Squeaky Brakes
Hi All,
My 2014 RDX has just over 8000kms and recently I have been hearing a loud squeaking noise when backing up and then later on it is gone, anyone else have this squeaky noise too?

I only own a 2013 I bought used with 28k miles on it, but I've noticed a slight high pitched noise from my breaks when initially running the car lately, only lasts a second or two, and has only started happening now that its dropped into the 20's here in Washington.. I blame the cold
I would not be too worried about it unless it does it when it is warmer outside. in the winter time you have a lot more moisture/road salt and the rotors can get a slight rust coating on the fairly easily. also it is not uncommon for brakes to chatter when you back up or first start to move forward as the pads move around slightly. You could ask your dealer to put some copper based antiseize on the pad ears, shims, and where the calipers touch the back of the pads.
If you do need new pads and rotors, check out our website for options.

I reported my breaks were squeaky, especially when first driving or backing out in the morning. I found the TSB on this site for the breaks to be replaced. I mentioned to my dealer and they replaced them. They mentioned many times this is very unusual and rarely fixed under warranty. They wanted to keep blaming the squeaking on the weather, moisture, etc...they never gave it much thought until they say the TSB.
At least on my Acura (TSX) they did not use anti-squeal compound. There was a shim on the back of the pad. When I replaced the brakes I used anti-squeal and they have never made a noise. Also I was sure to grease the caliper pins so the calipers would slide easily. You can buy anti-squeal at Auto Zone for a few bucks and brake grease and do this yourself. You do have to pull the wheel and undo the caliper.

Hmmm, try giving the car a hard brake (and I mean very hard brake) when it's safe to do so. I've found that it resolves the squeaky brake issue. Of course, the problem could be a little more serious, but given your mileage, I doubt it. A lot of new cars squeak within the first 10 minutes of driving them, especially in inclement weather *cough Calgary*.
