Rust under the body!!

Hi all,

Today I noticed a coating of rust on one of the flanges under the body in the exhaust line. Looking from the rear of the vehicle, towards the right side. The flange seems to connect the exhaust to the converter.

There have been no rains and my car has not been wet, other than normal wash and an occasional driving over water over the roadway from broken sprinklers etc.

Could you look under your vehicles? I don't think it should be there. Thoughts?

I looked at mine and the back flange has surface rust and the bolts on the front flange are rusty. It does not concerm me one bit - the struts I spent half a day putting on my pick-up last month also have surface rust in places. BTW - I am not positive but I think it is a resonator and not a cat convertor. I could be wrong since it is flanged for removal but it does not have o2 sensors upstream or downstream of it and I can see a cat convertor further upstream just behind the engine. That one is covered with a mesh heat guard. Everything in the exhaust system except the resonator (?) appears to be stainless steel with welded seams. Anyway, IMO there is nothing to worry about.
