Replacing HID bulb

Just got me a 2015 RDX AWD with tech in Kona Coffee and trying to do some mods (yes, I love messing with it).

I replace license plate and fog with LED and trying to match fog with low beam. Anybody replacing the HID bulb? It looks like there is not enough space to work with. Thinking about CBI bulb (5000K) or Philips xtremeVision (4800K) which all have 3200 lumens and should match with my fog perfectly, I hope.

Also anybody knows how to remove the cover of back dome light? But I guess I leave it as is since I don't want to go white LED for the back seat and front dome stay yellow with stock LED (I look and don't think I can remove front dome LED bulb).

So I guess I leave interior intact and mod exterior lightings.

Sigh....

Acura is known for having some of the best HID systems out there. Why would anybody want to mess with it?

I didn't mess with HID system (if you meant ballast and projector). I upgrade the bulb and the bulb has nothing to do with Acura, it's is Osram. The reason people mess with it is for the look.
Stock is 4300K which is yellow, Osram CBI or Phillips XtremeVision are whiter. Got it?

Good way to make friends.

If you have $200 burning a hole in your pocket to get a slightly whiter white and don't mind possible warranty issues down the road then go for it. Maybe you'll get lucky and get some Chinese knockoffs that last more than 3 months. Hold on to your OE bulbs as you'll probably need them.

They are OEM bulbs and I know where to get them since this is not the first time I deal with these. A lot of info from hidplanet forums about these 2 and where to get them. And you have to pay to play, it's that simple.

My custom retrofit on my civic with S2K gave a better light system than this RDX. Notice the cutoff line? too blurry. Need to swap out clear len and that is my next project.

Cutoff means nothing. A glow-worm or firefly will give you a sharp cutoff but it is how the light behaves below that cutoff that is important.

Why do you believe that a couple of guys cranking out generic lighting units can do a better job than the OEMs that spend millions on R&D?

Doesn't sound like you know much about HID. A visit to hidplanet will enrich your knowledge! But thank you anyway.

I know all about HIDplanet and it is still a bunch of guys who know nothing about lighting (or how the brain processes light) that are gluing lighting units together using JBweld and chewing gum.

You have your own thoughts backed by a group of internet "experts" while I have science backing me up.

Enjoy. I'm out of this thread.

I replaced one of my HID bulbs on the weekend because it failed. It took about 10 minutes to replace and there is enough room to get to it. Factory replacement Phillips bulbs can be had for under $40
I also replaced all of the interior bulbs with LED's. The covers pop off easily, no rocket science involved.

Ah, I see. I am trying the whole unit (including the len and gray part). It's just the len that need to be removed.
How about the front dome? Did you replace those and how? It looks like it soldered in with 5-led bulb and no way to pull the bulb out

I found your question is a bit insulting (just kidding). Can toyota do good sound system? Sure. Does Camry have good sound system? No. So can people mod and make it a great sound system? Absolutely.

I love modding light system too and I bet I can make it better than OEM without having to spend millions.

To OP, CBI is a bit too white and it does not performs well under heavy raining condition. Philips XVC1 (EtremeVision) could be a bit better since it is 4800K instead of 5000K, but I could be wrong.

Thank you so much for doing that.
Too many replies from you but none seem constructive or has anything help with original question.
