Remote Start
As in the Factory unit?

This is mine and it works well. Not as nice as some aftermarket ones, but it works.
The range is okay, however what disappoints me is having to use 2 fobs. Had I known this I would have bought a Compustar instead with Dronemobile so I could use my iPhone and have only the main fob.
I'm still going to look into this and it's integration to the Acura....

As you said, the only problem is that now you have two large key fobs in your pocket. I would prefer Acura is able to incorporate the remote start into just one FOB.
Looking at option (was not sure if even possible) to get remote start on tech package. I was not aware that OEM solution was out. So seems as I should be able to get back to Acura dealer and tell them to install/turn it on ? How expensive is it ? Is the 3 party any more reasonable which seems to give better integration ?

I never experienced error codes... I had a viper 5901 and smart start on my 2008 TL for about 2 years. Now I have a viper 5704 with viper smart start on my RDX tech for about 4-5 months. I have also been running various remote starts on different cars since 2004 and never had problems.
Since the RDX is push start, remote start is a little more complex because push start cars generally do not have engine take over. What does this mean? Well.... for cars that have a regular ignition where you have to insert your key to start the car; when you remote start you can open the door, put the key in the ignition, turn your key 1 or 2 clicks (before ignition crank) and drive off without ever having to restart your car. By turning the key, you are enabling the engine to take over when remote start disengages. Your remote start will disengage when you press the brake or go above a certain mph but usually it happens when you press the brake.
With push start...these cars generally do not have engine take over. So when you remote start, you open the door, engine shuts off (safety/security feature), and you have to restart the car in order to drive off. The reason is because its push start, you have no key to insert into the ignition and turn 1-2 clicks (before ignition crank) to enable engine take over. Having your engine stop running when you open the door can be a good thing because if it didn't, anyone could drive off with your car. But also a pain in the ass because you have to restart. A good alarm will also have other certain security features built in to avoid someone driving off with your car that I don't feel like writing about... any good installer will tell you about features of remote start or a security alarm to prevent theft. (starter kill, brake shutdown)
As far as restarting the car after shutting down from opening the door once remote start has been activated, you have to wait for your immobilizer icon (looks like a key I think) on your dash to go off which is literally under 5 seconds. The icon flashes because its basically telling the ECU that the immobilizer is not engaged. This is not an error code...and it only happens immediately when the engine shuts down
Don't be scared, remote start is great. If you get the Acura remote start then you will have 2 key fobs (until they incorporate one single key fob, if they ever do) and your range is something like 400 feet. If you get a decent aftermarket remote start or security with remote start, you still will have 2 key fobs but your range is significantly increased. Some systems claim 1/4 mile up to a mile range.
If you get a decent viper remote start or viper security with remote start and incorporate a viper smart start, then you can essentially only carry the acura remote and just use your phone to remote start your car and virtually start your car anywhere you have cell phone service

thanks for the lengthy explanation. At the end of the day, if I am going to spend $500+, I want to be able remote start, get in the car and drive. If it does not work this way (for whatever reason), I do not want it. On the top of it, I want this on single remote ...
I have experience with remote start on several vehicles (2 factory and 4 aftermarket). My previous vehicle had push button start and I found restarting the car annoying to the point that I hardly ever used the remote start.
This is my second winter with RDX and I really haven't missed it. I start the car, turn on the heated seat, 2 minutes of warm up and off I go.
Toasty warm in 5 minutes or less.
We have people at our office that run their vehicles for up to 20 minutes. They are also the ones that complain about poor fuel economy. Go figure.

I usually use remote start more often in winter months. I just remote start it and let it run for 12 minutes until it turns off by itself. I will usually remote start the car ahead of time before I need to leave to go somewhere so it can warm up. That way when im ready to go, the car has already been on for 12 minutes and shut off and I just go on my way like normal
