Rear view mirror vibration.

Rear view mirror vibration.
My passenger side rear view mirror began a weird vibration while reversing (tilt function). Sometimes it makes a noise as well. Took it to the dealer and they said that the mirror actuator motor has gone bad. It needs replacement.
The strange thing is that, for the RDX, the mirror actuator doesn't come as a separate part (unlike MDX) - per dealer. So the entire rear view mirror assembly needs to be replaced (painted as well). They have placed an order for the new mirror and will give me a call when ready.
I remember someone mentioning this same problem in another thread. I believe it should be covered by warranty.

I don't think it's accurate on either count based on what the dealer told you. If you look at this page with the parts for a mirror on the RDX, it not only shows separately-replaceable parts on the mirror (meaning the actuator can be done separately), it also shows the housings in factory colors as well....

over in 3G TL land, we have a similar issue and find greasing it helps a tad.. https://acurazine.com/forums/3g-tl-p...-045-a-832020/

If that solves the problem then it may be as simple as an adjustment. If it doesn't fix it then you'll need a new one.
My dealer wanted to replace mine too. I realized that I had jostled the adjustment at some point and it was in fact pointing too far down when in the normal position. When it went into reverse it would hit the stops, start jerking and made clicking noises.
All has been well for a year now.
I don't know if the reverse tilt can be adjusted but if moving it up a hair fixes it then a new assembly probably isn't needed.

Ceb.., I don't think it is hitting the bottom while reverse tilting. The vibration and sound happens long before it reaches down. Also the burrrring... noise is prominent when the mirrors are returning to normal position (towards the end) when forward gear is selected. It has been working properly on the same setting for over a year and a half without any issues. May be I will try to get a video of the problem.

Alright, I got my mirror replaced under warranty. Entire mirror assembly was replaced including the painted cover. It works flawlessly now. One less thing to worry about .
Cheers.

Good job. Of course, if it makes noises going back up then it is the assembly and not an adjustment.
