Rear hatch button on dash - is there a catch?

The rear hatch release button on dash to left of steering wheel - is there a trick to getting it to work? I've pressed with car on, with car off and still doesn't open back hatch. Have to use remote or walk to rear and open manually. What am I doing wrong?

I had the same problem, and in my case it was because I did not hold the button long enough. A simple quick push does not work. One must hold the button for a second or two. And I think the car must be on.

You have to unlock the door first. This one drove me nuts until I finally complained at my dealer and they explained it to me.

Yep. You have to shift to Park, unlock all the doors, and then hold the button for 1-2 seconds. Page 110 in the manual.

I wrestled with this too, then realized that you need to customize the settings so that ALL doors are unlocked when you put the vehicle into park. (See page 92 of the owners manual.) When you do that, the hatch will open if you hold the button.

You can probably blame the legal division at American Honda.

Accidently, while driving I pushed one or two of these buttons with my left knee. So I am really glad they have this safety. I would not really want for hatch to open while diving and my dog is back there. So right now I only end up turning off the tracking (or whatever is called)... which is on the other button. I think the 3rd button is not used...

Best think to do is set up unlocking on all doors when put into park. Never an issue again.

There are personal security folks out there who advise against having all doors unlock automatically...I still do it but my wife's settings only unlock the driver door. Unless you want to remotely open the hatch every time you shut the car down, it's easy enough to unlock the doors with the button before operating the hatch.

PLZ Think Twice About Auto-Unlock in Park - It is No Bueno

Why am I not surprised by this additional wisdom from my brother down in the Hill country.

Folks (male and female) PLZ think twice about programming the auto unlock of ALL doors when you shift into park.

Trust me (yes I know) when I say there are way too many scrotes out there that love to jump in your veh. w/ you in it, either for your personal possessions or for the vehicle. It only takes a few SECONDS @ most to hit the unlock button AFTER you glance around at your surroundings.

Sorry for the rant here, let's just say I care about my fellow RDXers & call it good.

Looks like some bow echo returns on the radar up your way, cuz. Hope you're staying safe and dry! Adios(Please send us the rain without the red radar stuff, K?)

Mi amigo, que pasa? I saw the WX you mentioned a few minutes ago when I went to one of the few apps I will pay for (radar scope) to look @ them in depth. It appears they are north/south of the Metroplex & I am wayyyy east of them over next to LA in Harrison county.

My hope is w/ all this back & forth 'tween us, it gets some folks here to RETHINK auto un-lock all doors in park. You & I both know that is a MAJOR recipe for DISASTER w/ out some situational awareness. That said, whom here actually takes a second or two when entering/exiting their veh. to actually look @ their nearby environment?

Hope you & the boss have a good wknd. down there in the hill country.
