Really Acura?

So, I received an email today offering an updated map for my RDX for a mere $149 and, if I order quickly, free shipping! Yippee? Not so much. I know (and most of you know) those same maps will be sold for $99 at some point this year. The worst part? Owners of the '19 RDX are reportedly (though there's still some question about this on the gen3 forum) getting over the air map updates four times a year for FREE! (quote from Acura press release cited on the forum: " The system includes free quarterly map database updates for five years.") How is that right?

Come on Acura, offer map updates to the rest of us for the cost of burning the DVD (since we apparently can't update via wifi) plus shipping and handling. Say $20. Or, better, let us take our own flash drives to the dealer once a year, load the new maps on them then go home and burn our own disk. Great customer service and it gets us into the dealer's parts department where they can try to sell us.....Acura tire valve caps or something. Now that sounds fair.

Cheers!

I got the email as well. '12 TL. I've never upgraded the nav and probably never will. It's not that it's bad, it's just that google is better. And it's free.

I laughed when I saw the update notice in my email. My wife's 2012 Nissan Maxima had a much more coherent navigation systems that was more intuitive to use. The navigation on my RDX is one of the few features that I really dislike, and I always find it easier to just use Google Maps (for me anyways). Hopefully they make improvements when I look at Acura next time, and I think I'll just pass on this "offer".

I agree... garmin nuvi resides on my lower left windshield... free updates 3 x year, and intuitive to use. Even if Acura were to offer free updates, I doubt if I'd even bother to take them up on it.
My 2 cents.....

Got the same email for my 2018 RDX. Not a chance I'd get it. Some time ago, I got an ($99) update disk for my 2013 which I no longer have. Barely any difference and a waste of money.

2014 RDX and never updated navi. waste of money. When in doubt, I whip out my cell phone and use Google maps which is free and always up to date. Use the $149 to take your spouse/significant other to dinner. :-)

I've been a member for a long time, but don't usually spend time on the Forum. My 2010 SH-AWD 6-MT has been my daily driver since January 2013; it's been the absolute best daily driver I've ever had. I live in Connecticut, and it handles the snow wonderfully with Pilot A/S 3's, and the 6-MT is sooooo smooth and a blast to drive. It's a great car. I've thought for a long time that I'd probably hold onto the car for a long time, but here lately I'm wondering/contemplating moving to an automatic... Not sure what else I'd get though, so I'll have to look around for a while.

If you switched from your 6-MT to an Automatic something, what would you consider buying?

if you are more used to the 1st gen RDX with its turbo engine, it’s unlikely that you’ll be happy with the 2nd gen RDX. You should look into 3G RDX with automatic transmission if you can, and want to stay within Acura brand. Good luck.

I went from a 2004 Subaru Forester XT 2.5 Turbo 5-speed manual to a 2015 AWD RDX V6 6-sp auto. Even though the Forester was so fast it would easily blow the doors off most sports cars, never mind any generation RDX, I find the 2G RDX auto to be an excellent combination of engine and transmission. It is very smooth, responsive, and has plenty of power. The adjustment from a pocket rocket to the RDX was minimal from the point of view of driveability, power, and the way the automatic transmission behaves. The biggest adjustment I had to make was to let my left foot rest and not reach for the non-existent clutch pedal

I do use my navigation, usually update every 4-5 years. Back in the day before cell phone GPS, I would update every 2 years. Loved the Zagat ratings to help find restaurants.
