It is called the E-DPS relay, located in the auxiliary relay block under the hood.

I have an idea that's going to sound crazy but hear me out: try unplugging one of your wheel speed sensors and see if you still get that lurch when shifting to drive.

What this does is throw the ABS into a sort of limp mode where AWD will be disabled. I'm thinking that maybe we can isolate the source of the issue by taking the rear diff out of the equation.

If you're gonna consider replacing the trans, you wanna be sure that's it.
This had no effect on the symptom, unfortunately.

Installed a new Anchor Active Rear Engine Mount to replace the defective one which had a horrible buzzing noise in operation.

The car pretty much slid into drive normally - several times. It appears the rear mount was causing all the drama with the banging into gear from park.

Wow glad you figured it out!

I'm also glad you figured it out—it's just a shame you didn't go to a competent mechanic for a diagnosis right away, but instead just started parts canon.
This is a major downside of forums: people very often struggle to clearly explain their problem, while others struggle to properly understand what the issue is in order to help.

I appreciate the sentiment. Yet, after owning more than fifty vehicles I am far to the good doing my own work almost exclusively.

The only work I farm out is air conditioning and alignments. Even there, I align and charge the ‘68 myself! LOL

Best.

I thought you said you replaced mounts in a prior post, that's why I didn't suggest it sooner. But glad the mount resolved it.

In my case fluid pressure switch for the 4th clutch was the culprit. Finally got around to changing it.

RockAuto sent me a defective part. Took me awhile to figure that out and go through the trouble of ordering another one to try.

Ugh that's rough.

Aftermarket parts quality is a dumpster fire across the board these days.

Sparkplugs, sensors.. everything. I used to buy alot more off FleaBay. Not so much, nowadays because of the uncontrolled counterfeit trade. I find myself going to RockAuto if it is not from an OE Factory Parts Supplier.

Typically garage shifts from Park to Drive don't stress the engine mounts much, the engine is at idle so if the shift to Drive is rough from Park how were the upshifts and downshifts while driving under more torque? I would think if the engine mount was a problem you'd have rough shifts or clunks while driving too. Did you notice any problems when driving?
