passenger air bag light
passenger air bag light
my wife has a 2013 rdx with tech package.
on the right side of g.p.s. screen is a warning light thats always on ...passenger air bag.....is that light always supposed to be on .
the amber colored off light below it only comes on when there is not enough weight on the front seat. that is expected.

Okay. The top line which says "passenger air bag" is just for information and will always be on when you open the driver door. The amber light below it comes on when there's no passenger / weight on it. Cool.. no worries.
the message , passenger airbag, is always on, regardless of opening or closing doors.
acura checked it out and came up with no error codes. they claimed thats the way it should be.
we have had the vehicle for 4 years and i just recently noticed it.
although acura checked it out,i have been blown off by dealers numerous times in the past,
so i came here for confirmation from other owners.
acura might very well be right on this, in fact i think they are.
but if not there can be 3 other possibilities.
the vehicle recently had driver air bag replaced, and although they are independent perhaps some how ,some way, this triggered the message.
or the message should have been on for 4 years but wasnt and now began to appear.
or it has been there for 4 years and neither my wife or myself ever took notice until last week.
those possibilities all seem unlikely, so in this case acura is probably right.
still i would like to hear from other owners.
i just went down and checked in the garage and without opening any vehicle door.
there is a message on right side of monitor saying...passenger air bag. its is not illuminated but it is present.
only when insufficient weight is not applied to seat an amber warning light illuminates to warn those in the vehicle,as it should.

There is some confusion between the message and the actual warning light.
The message "passenger air bag" is actually written in white (paint..???) and is illuminated just like the instrument cluster only when the door is opened / central unlocking is activated ( You can check that while the car is otherwise looked in a dark garage, using a flash light...I did). This is just the labelling of the light and not the warning light itself. The amber light below it is the actual warning light which momentarily turns on upon ignition and then switches off. It will remain on if there is no passenger / weight on the passenger seat. Is everyone on the same page now?

The message "passenger airbag" is not always illuminated. At least not in my car. You need to check in in a dark garage with the parking lights / headlights to "off" position to turn it off.... and try it without the key inside the car.
Check this you tube video. Hope I make myself clear.
PS. This discussion is purely academic only and not of any significant consequence to Acura owners....

thats what im seeing, but mine does not blink, its steady on.
i just rechecked in dark garage not opening vehicle door.
my headlight switch is in auto.no key in car.
when i look through drivers window at screen, its totally black.
but when i shine flash light on screen through drivers window it illuminates passenger air bag message.
that then comes on screen and remains on when i start the vehicle.
im not used to seeing a dash board message light either lit up or illuminated unless there is a problem or malfunction.
acura claims it should be on.i checked owners manuel but didnt find any specific mention of it.

just saw the message...yes it goes on and off depending on selection of headlight switch options.
my concern is with car running why is it always on the screen?
lights, or a message on screens usually represents malfunction. i dont need nor do i understand an illuminated message saying passenger air bag....i know the air bag is there.
i just want to see the message when theres a problem .i dont understand why acura chose to design it this way.
