Noob here. Question about 2014 RDX
Noob here. Question about 2014 RDX
Greetings. My first time posting here. I've been through the search and I've found a lot of info, but I still would like to make sure. My wife drives a 2014 RDX. We bought it as a loaner vehicle which was certified. The vehicle has been awesome. Of course, it's out of warranty. My wife has been concerned with some slipping in her transmission. I read a variety of posts that said don't do flush. That's what Acura wants to do for the tune of $400. The local Honda dealership wants to empty and refill for about $100 or so. I read something about a 3x3, but I have no idea what that is. I'm hoping for some guidance in which direction we need to go. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks, Ron
Here is the service bulletin:

Welcome to the world of Honda automatics! A normal transmission maintenance is a drain and fill. As noted above, that replaces approx. 1/3 of the fluid.
Doing that three times, with driving in between is how Honda wants a "flush" to be done. One NEVER wants to let some oil change place to do one of their
"flushes" That would ruin a Honda automatic and they probably would use the wrong fluid. When is is said that you need to drive around between changes,
what that means is going through all the gears and having the torque converter lock up. So more than around the block if dyi. The dealer, doing this service bulletin,
will run the RDX on the lift. A dyi might do it every weekend, or for the next three oil changes. The maintenance interval used to be every 45k, but is now every 30k. Of course that now gets timed by how many oil changes have passed and a code shows up. The code will only show up if you let the oil life get down to 15%, so overdoing the maintenance might actually make you miss things.
I think it is important that one get the software update(s) outlined in the service bulletin procedure. It keeps the fluid from breaking down so quickly. That bulletin also has a provision for the dealer to ask for out of warranty reimbursement.
What you have to say when presenting a complaint is the you are experiencing a "judder"
Once this is resolved, remember to keep up with regular trans fluid changes. Honda automatics have always required them.
