Navigation "update"

I just received a letter from Acura saying my navigation is due for an update. They offer the "deal" of $99 vs the $149 regular price. It is amazing to me they would charge for navigation updates on a 2016 premium vehicle which is still under warranty. I even have the maintenance package on the car. As my wife hates the nav anyway(it frequently gives us bad results so she never uses it) I will pass on the "upgrade". Just venting a bit about it as I was shocked they wanted me to pay for an upgrade so soon.

They do annual nav update DVD's, and when they're ready to issue a new update, they drop the price of the previous one by fifty bucks. I only have done one update to the wife's '12 TL - in 2015 - just to catch any major road updates. Annual updates are a waste unless you're traveling in urban areas a lot (IMHO). If Honda/Acura didn't pack so many other cool features with their Tech package, I'd bypass the nav altogether and stick to my Garmin unit with lifetime updates for free....

Yep - Google maps is always free and works just as well with BT streaming to the infotainment system.

Apple CarPlay...wish I'd of held out for that.
the nav and Acurawatch is slow and clunky compared to the speed of an iPhone

Just an FYI. The disc player in my 2016 RDX Advance is CD only. No more DVD compatibility like earlier models.

I just received the offer letter too and my wife was like... we need to get the update done. But really if they are dropping the price because a new one will be out soon, then what's the point in updating.......
My plan is to wait at least five years before doing an update and hopefully by that time it might be free. .
